Modern Varminter - another range report UPDATED POST 61, better groups

Okay I really need to know what you guys spent all said and done to get a modern varminter to your door. I really want one!! I was gonna buy a bushmaster acr and liked everything accept the awful balance and front heavy feeling. It looks like the modern varminter would be balanced better and quick pointing for hunting etc.. Badly want one! Lol ok I'll shut up now

As mentioned, try a better rest and keep trying some different loads. My light barrel likes 69 grain sierras and varget. That has been a go to load in every .223 I have owned. Here's a cold bore group I shot a couple weeks ago:

That's a nice looking group! I'm not sure if I want to get into handloading for my 223 right now, though. I barely have enough time to get loads done for my 6.5!

The ACR is no different than the MV or any other non restricted length rifle when it comes to balance. My first non restricted 223 barrel for my ACR was a pencil barrel and it was nice and light, then I bought a medium profile stainless barrel for more consistency as it started to warm up and it's much more nose heavy now. Just like a MV any rifle with a heavy profile 18.6 inch barrel will be nose heavy, it's the price you have to pay for a NR length hbar. If you don't plan to run handloads or expensive factory loads or if you want more of a 3-gun rifle then don't opt for the heavy or medium profile barrel. If you're just blasting standing then get the light barrel since you won't notice the accuracy anyway.

This. Not all rifles are equal even though they are the same model. Most of it is what you make it, via parts choice and feature wants/sacrifices.

$4560. I drove to Calgary and picked mine up. All depends on the options you choose. I have only shot about 60 rounds through mine between the crappy weather and working lots. Ran some Nosler match and Hornady match and the groups were about 1.2-1.6". Hell, even the crappy PMC bronze stuff i had was grouping good lol. Ive got some other match stuff to try once the weather gets nice.

I had an ACR but I sold it. I regret selling it every day lol. Once the funds allow i will buy a new one for sure!

I feel like if I were to fondle a modern varminter it would feel and handle much nicer than an acr tho. I've only handled an acr tho one time and never a modern varminter. So what do I know. Lol

Personally I find the overall ergonomics and ability to customize an AR type rifle second to none. This overall feel and a great deal of the options transfer directly to the MV. I liked my XCR as well, but the inability to swap hand guards and the thin FAST stock left me disappointed compared with an AR.

Uh oh. I finally got a chance to go shoot some better ammo through my Varmint. I used 75gr Hornady March BTHP. Good stuff, right?

100m, groups in inches. The 3+ ones I was too frustrated to bother measuring. Might be less.

I am not sure what to make of this. The middle group is 53 gr Vmax, as I only had one box of the 75 gr. There was about a 15 km wind, but overall, I don't think the match ammo did much better. I will say I pulled the ridiculously far off shot in the bottom left, not the guns fault. But the rest?

Honestly what disappointed me the most was the 3 light strikes I had on the match ammo (one of which didn't even reach the primer, I can supply pics if needed). I'm using Hoppes gun oil, and it is -5, so I'm not sure that had anything to do with it. I guess I'm not really asking any actual questions here, but what are the hives thoughts?

I honestly really like this gun, and may just adjust my expectations, but quite frankly I'm disappointed in the accuracy. Maybe I just suck?

What's the barrel twist? 75 grain is prob way to heavy for your twist. 55's tho should be decent atleast but no guarantee your gun will like them as much as another brand. Reloading would easy take care of that. Practice makes better. I've had days where my shooting was awfully poor. Other days I'm so relaxed I'm shooting bug holes. I know it would be upsetting in that rifle to get those groups but I wouldn't hang yiur hesd down just yet man

It is a Lilja barrel, 1:8 twist. I don't believe 75 is too heavy for 1:8, is it?

is that the super performance match ?

If so hornady warns against use in some gas rifles,

I think they recommend only 20inch barrels at least or something
