Been looking around for some 7.62x54R for a while now, and checked out the sponsors websites. Is it just me or is everybody sold out or have really high prices? While I don't expect the $0.30 per round I paid last time I bought, I certainly don't want to pay $0.55-0.60 per round either. Does anyone know if there's any 7.6254R on sale anywhere in the sub $0.40 per round range?

nope, best your likely to get is 300+tax PRC 880rds , lately its avg 350. Paid 300 plus shipping n tax at xmas 360ish total. or approx. 170 to 200 per tin.

Marstar. $345/880 plus shipping and tax. It came to $.49 per round for me. Couldn't find anything cheaper than that.

I'm hoping a few deals will turn up locally here as well. Probably going to raid my local canadiantires this weekend and see if they have anything.

The Chinese stuff comes labeled as "Czech Republic army surplus". It's actually pretty good stuff! I will say it's getting harder to find however. Haven't seen any Eastern European stuff in a long time

Ya, I agree. Some of the best stuff I've used is the newer chinese surplus. Had a ton of ftf with older stuff, but the new stuff was best kind. I'd take whatever I could get at this point.

If Trump the stump, lifts some of the trade embargos etc from Russia and or things get resolved between them and Ukraine you will likely see a flood of European surplus ammo coming ove again, but that will not likely happen this year!

I'd be overwhelmed with joy if you were right! Unfortunately, I'm very pessimistic about the final outcome at least for the next 3-4 years.
Like you see around, the prices for the 7.62x54Rmm went through the roof. The cheapest one can find is $.50 per round (including shipping and taxes). At those prices shooting the Mosin makes no sense anymore. Not so long time ago I could find the 7.62x54Rmm at $.32-35 per round. We are still lucky that the 7.62x39mm can still be found at $.22-.25 per round. It has not skyrocketed YET like its x54R counterpart.

if he lifts trade embargo that means more to the USA not necisarily here. I have a truckload of Bulgarian for sale but you guys are all to far away

Further to my comment #11 above, D.J. Trump is not going to lift sanctions on Russia soon. Envoy: US to Lift Crimea-Linked Sanctions When Peninsula Returns to Ukraine (https://sputniknews.com/politics/201702031050295391-us-crimea-related-sanctions-russia/)
Forget about cheap surplus from Russia. All we could have would be Chinese at continually increasing prices.

I can't see your reasoning there. Any surplus ammo coming into Canada has to be approved by NRCAN. That means every new lot has to be approved as well. Most retailers are finding it difficult to recoup their investments in appropriate time frames. I'm not saying they don't make a profit but what they do make may not be worth the effort.

There seems to be tons of it available in Europe as well as the US. The only reason I can see for it not being available at better prices or even available at all is whether the transactions are cost effective. The Canadian market just isn't that cost effective or there would be a lot more of it available than there is. We do seem to bet better surplus 7.62x39 prices than in the US. Distributors need to be able to purchase SeaCans full of any ammo to get good prices on it. That's a lot of trouble and a fairly large investment for most Canadian distributors and dealers.

I had several cases of x54 and x39 that I was taking to gun shows. One or two cases at a time. My prices were slightly lower but comparable to the online dealers and LGS. I sold one crate of each as an unopened crate. The rest was all sold as part units of whatever was in the packages. For many here, a crate is a weekend or two of shooting but not for most shooters. They were mostly interested in the 15-20 round packages and then only wanted one or two packages. I charged accordingly.

Just before Christmas I sold off half a crate of South African 303Brit. I had at least a dozen guys calling and wanting ONE 48 round box. My answer to all of them was NO. I won't break up the package in bits and dribbles. It just isn't worth buggering around with. I sold it all to a young fellow in one lot. He was happy to get it. Still, it took 3 months to find someone willing to purchase that much ammo in a lot.

Group buys are OK, if you can get the money up front. Try it out and see how that works.

It's like everything else in life. You get what you PAY for. If Canadian shooters don't shoot enough to bring the costs down then we pay higher prices and of course the merchants are reluctant to invest in such a slow market.
