Panfilovs 28 is a Russian produced movie about 28 Soviet riflemen of a Guards Regiment who defended their postion during the German attack on Moscow, in 1941, lots of good action clips of the German Panzer Mk.111, Soviet Mosin Nagant rifles, PPSH 41,SVT 40 rifles, Maxim 1910 machine gun, PPSH smg and Soviet hand grenades which they wrapped with wire 6 grenades and used these against the Panzers, sorry i dont have the computer knowledge to cut and paste these clips from YouTube , this movie was only released in Russia on November 24

The movie you just posted is Fortress Brest, also a Russian produced movie, produced in 2010, the movie that i posted and other CGN'S is "Panfilovs 28, just released in Russia in Nov 2016

Just checked-no DVDs in English anywhere.Too bad.Could be good film.
Russian (and others as well) movie makers could make some good money if they ever decide to start selling N.American region DVDs in English.
Whoever distributed "Daywatch" and "Nigh####ch" movies did it,hardly anyone else followed that idea.
From all foreign movies I think only Korean productions have N.American distribution even if a bit sketchy at times.

Seems to me that production did not get underway until late 1941, so would there have been many in defence of Moscow, as the movie depicts?

The PZIIIs and PZIVs are nice, they went to a fair bit of trouble with the kit. I suppose the PPSh-41s must have been early production, true .
Of course it is a PZIIIJ with the L60 gun, mid 1942, but it is a fictional story in any event.
The sheer misery of the cold is the striking thing about these movies, I wouldn't have held up well.

Very few were actually fabricated.Some time in 1950s there was a review of "Hero of The Soviet Union" recipients and documents ordered by Kremlin and they did find some that were manufactured.
Those were removed from documents and official accounts.You won't find them mentioned anywhere after 1960.
Number of exaggerated instances was higher but not to the point of fraud.Fraudulent reports were frown upon by both Smersh and NKVD for different reasons but effect was the same-Shtrafbat was the best outcome.
Soviet propaganda did produce some fictional "heroes" in 1941 and 42 but they never existed in the first place-for the most part they were nameless.

The movie itself is quite good, however it does not give the feeling as if soldiers belong to that era. These guys behave like they are 21st century soldiers. Fat faces gives them away right there. 1941 Soviet soldiers were roughly 160 cm tall and 60kg soaking wet. Communist slogans and talk about communism in the soviet army was first thing on their minds and if they not talking about it there would be report filled to political commissar right away, by comrades. Training with make shift tanks is another bs. They just had no time for that.
In reality Panfilov's division was just barely equipped and low on personnel. According to what I learned in school none survived and there were more than 28 guys that jumped under the tanks and blew themselves up. Its just none could actually keep track of who actually did what.
Its just Propaganda machine made heroes out of 28 who's names were able to identify.

Just watched the 2 hour version with English sub-titles...
Most of the production costs were crowd funded ...
It wasn't too bad, even if it was the John Wayne version of Russian propaganda..
Seeing all the period weapons was worth sitting through it...
