Hello, I am looking for an idea how much I would have to pay for a 6 inch bright stainless python. I don't want an unfired collectors piece. I am looking for something that I can take to the range. Thanks in advance!

Depending on condition, anywhere between $3000-$4000 seems to be the going price.

There has been a lot of Python scams lately. Be very aware and ask for proof of ownership before you drop $ on one.
And watch out for $2500 ones! That was the last scam reported here about 3 weeks ago.

The Ultimate Stainless (bright stainless) finish Pythons will bring a premium over the brushed stainless ones. Nearly all Ultimate Stainless Pythons I've seen for sale in the past couple years are in near mint condition with box and papers and go in the $4000-$4500 range depending on how badly the buyer wants it.

That said, if you can find a shooter grade (about 90% condition) Python in Ultimate stainless finish without box, I'm guessing that around $3500 would be a decent price.

Yeah, there's a few "98%+ condition" Royal Blued Pythons for sale on the EE right now in the $3500+ range but no taker and ad bumped for a while, that can give you an indication of ongoing prices.

Unless you have the letter from Colt stating that it came from factory with the BSS finish it's pretty easy to make a brushed stainless look like the Ultimate... a few hours of polishing and voila!

If the seller was willing to give out the serial number, would you not be able to find out what the factory finish was with a # search?

You won't get these details with a simple serial check. Unless you have the complete labeled outersleeve with details, the factory letter is the only way to know.

I would shoot a 686 on the range, NOT a bright stainless python. I have seen them run for $3500-$4500+. Also again, watch out for scams as I also was looking at that $2500 one, but it just did not look right. Remember one thing, if a deal is too good to be true, it usually is :(!

Out of curiosity, what value would you all put on a brushed stainless python that had been polished?

At least 25% less than the original brushed stainless value for sure. As soon as the original finish is gone a part of the value is lost. That's my collector point of view.
