Eusibio arizaga

Hey I've acquired a eusibio arizaga double barrel shotgun from a friend who wasn't using it . It's a boxlock so I imagine it's not some fancy sought after gun but just curious about it. Other then the name all I know is it's a Spanish gun. If anybody has any knowledge of this gun and could throw me some info about what I actually have that would be great thanks !
 
That's interesting you should ask because I bought an E. Arizaga this year as well and have been looking for more info. Because the shop closed before the internet there is not a lot of information on the web. Eusibio died and the firm, "Successors of Eusibio Arizaga" was absorbed in the '80's into the collective DIARM that ultimately failed. Jack O'Connor sang his praises in The Shotgun Book of the 28ga and 20ga sxs that he custom ordered in early sixties.
I have Terry Wieland's book, Spanish Best, and its great perspective on Basque gunmaking but not a lot of specific info on Eusibio. Believed he worked in Placencia de las armas rather than Eibar.
You show us yours I'll show you mine....have since this photo changed buttpad. Gun is in the shop now getting a makeover.

Gorgeous. I have an arizaga sxs 12 ga English stock box lock that I love. It's extremely narrow in th wrist and has 26.5" barrels choked full and cyl

It's not worth much

That is a really nice looking sidelock. Please share some pictures once the makeover is complete.
 
Thanks for the comments guys. Evidently not all Spanish gun engraving has pterodactyl-like ducks with curved bills hinging up rather than down. Will definitely post more about my 20ga in (hopefully) January/February.
Back to the thread, here's a Spanish catalog from Eusibio A. According to Wieland, their customers were mostly Spanish but the gunmakers themselves prior to civil war likely didn't speak what we would call Spanish (Castillian) - only the largely unrelated Basque language, Euskara. The cover has his coat of arms and says "Fabrica de escopetas finas de caza. Casa fundata en 1908" (Maker of fine hunting shotguns. House founded in 1908). At that time their standard of excellence and largest competitor would have been Victor Sarasqueta.
Strange how E. Arizaga unknown here. AYA by contrast is well known and respected in North America. AYA were lone survivors of the DIARM company collapse and originally founded in 1915.



 
From the catalogue it is obvious that Arizaga made a gun for every price point, like many or even most Spanish gunmakers.
The photo of the sidelock shows a very high grade gun with wonderful wood.
It would be interesting to see the OP's boxlock gun.
 
Very slender little piece. Looks like a pleasure to carry. Take a photo of the barrel flats and water table and can easily decipher year, chamber length, chokes.
 
Sorry, I can't make out the chokes or see the year code. The latter should be a letter followed by a number. The chokes will be on each barrel - should be two numbers showing the cylinder diameter (probably 10.4 mm) and the constricted diameter. You can subtract those two, convert to inches and look it up on Briley website. Chamber is 76 mm which is 3"
 
Date code is 1933 , 1960 or 1986. Can't make out if it is an F or F1 or F2. If you google Eusibio Arizaga you will get lots of info. Problem is you'll have to hit the translate feature on your computer as it's in Spanish.
