Condition of carry when still hunting with a semi rifle.

Hot standby with safety on as soon as I get out of the roadway/across fence/etc. I let the BCG fly shut, no easing it forward.

It stays loaded and on safe until the hunt is over or I have to climb into a tree stand, cross another fence etc.

I've always hunted with bolt action rifles with a chambered round IN THE FEILD ONLYso all you have to worry about is how much noise the safety makes when released! Otherwise it's ALWAY empty and locked even in my truck. My idea is simple err on the side of safety means you GO HOME TO YOUR FAMILY!

Another thing to keep in mind... When things go bad, they go bad fast... For me, that means having one in the chamber.

I am out West and my partners and I have one in the chamber safety on while walking, one of my long time partners hunted with a BAR and He was the same (now hunts with a bolt)

Funny...in a country where the guy who sawed off a young fellow's head on a bus can wander the streets unsupervised, you're worried about the inanimate rifle in the back seat rearing up and attacking you?
 
Locked and loaded - the only way to ride. I have no concept of these folks who are paranoid of a gun attacking them. Last time I checked, there wasn't a single gun serving time for a crime. It is all about safe firearms handling - loaded or not.

I didn't read everything so maybe this was pointed out, but I think hunting conditions may impact the decision. If you're hunting where 200 yards is "close" you've got lots of time to load and noise isn't as important. In thick bush where shots are at 25 yards there is no time to load and even the snick of a safety can be too loud.
 
For the most part I'm locked and loaded, and more often than not on a sling. There's exceptions, and it's not
Like I haven't tried just about every way you can imagine. Still end up going back to the familiar.
 
This ones a little confusing too. Maybe hes just a little less comfortable with rifles than some of us. I personally just ride the safety on. As soon as im interested off goes the safty and half sholder and once i verify the target is red dot on target and leads flying. As for the crawling around on rocks ... You might be doing some spot and stalk in the mountians but in ON. Im done with crawling in the bush hahah.

One other thought ... You like the levers i think you said. Grab an old wichester. Slam one in the chamber and its 1/8 cocked :). Bear hunting ... Thats my choice. Winchester model 71 .348 if you can find one šŸ˜.

Been out for a while. He was trying for an absolute discharge but I think they denied that so he's still in a halfway house on conditions that include abiding by house rules, taking his medications, attending appointments, keeping contact with mental health professionals and going to counselling.

I am thoroughly disgusted by that POS and the people who are letting said POS out into the public.

This country needs some leadership to protect those who can not protect themselves.

As for the topic of the thread loaded, cocked and safety on...
There are a few bolt action rifles that can be decocked by holding the trigger as the bolt is dropped.
All that is required is to raise the bolt and she is ready to rock.
Doesn't work for a semi-auto though.

Round chambered. Rifle has no safety. Keep your booger hook off the bang switch. If I get up to walk somewhere, I keep my "manual safety" engaged. If crossing an obstacle, I unload.

Problem then is that you have the striker sitting on the primer. That's no bueno if you fall the wrong way.
