Hi Everyone ... I cant decide !! 1911 / Glock17 / Jericho 941 (All in 9mm)

I'm in the process of shopping for my 1st pistol and its now almost a month I'm just turning in circles looking at reviews, pricing, availability.. etc ..

I dont have a huge budget so must stay under 700-800ish..
I'm looking in the 9mm with possible conversion kit to 22lr (This is a big plus)
In everything I do as hobby I end up getting into modding / addons .. I hear the Glock is very good in after market .. what about the rest?

Regarding 1911 clones .. would available conversion fit Clones such as Norinco ? (I searched over and over and never got a clear answer)

Any additional advise is welcome :)

Thanks

pfft, easy. Buy all three - problem solved. You're welcome.

But in all seriousness (is that a word?) figure out which fits your hand best as they are all very different pistols.
And do yourself a favour and don't buy a Norinco 1911 as your first pistol.

Thanks for the comments.
Any comments on the .22lr conversion kit for the Glocks ?? or the hell with 22lr and suck up the price of the 9mm ?
From my shopping around I see a few different prices for 9mm and found the refilled ammunition ... are these safe for use in glocks for range shooting? Or is there a specific cheap 9mm ??

Thanks

I own 1911s, all three in 45ACP, and one a Walther made Colt marketed 22LR. I've shot Glocks, I can't tell you the model or even the generation, but they were all in 9mm and they were nice guns, nothing exciting, but nice. I have never shot the Jericho products but word of mouth, and print, says they're good guns.

Again no experience with Norinco guns, so you need to ask around about them. But assuming the 1911 you have is built to specs then an aftermarket conversion kit should fit. You might have to do some fitting but not much, I would think.

I am a fan of the 1911, I make no bones about that. You want after market goodies, what ever you find for any other autoloader, double that number and you will still find more than that for the 1911 platform. You will be able to get a better trigger on a 1911 than on any other gun except, perhaps, a SIG 210, and then the SIG will probably only equal the 1911's.

Reloads are fine, and a cheaper way to shoot 9mm, but they do vary in quality depending on the maker. I have heard a lot of negative comments about Wartec reloads, avoid them!! I use CRS reloads out here on the west coast because they are local and dependable, I'm sure someone could point out a good reload closer to you. Your other option is to check the site sponsors, factory ammo goes on sale quite often and good deals are available.

The .22 conversion kit is fine for the Glock. All .22 kits are ok for practice but can be finicky, with FTF, FTE issues.
Commercial reloaded ammo is fine. I shoot a lot of it through mine. Just don't shoot lead reloads through the factory polygonal barrel. Any jacketed round is ok.
The Jericho is a DA/SA gun. The Glock is a Safe Action gun and the 1911 is a single action gun. They are all different in use and operation, trigger feel and disassembly. The 1911 is the biggest pain of the 3 to take apart and put back together. But it also has or the ability to have the best trigger.
You need to learn 2 trigger pulls with the Jericho ( or at least, have the ability to learn!) i also don't like slide mounted safeties.

The Glock is the simplest to work on. There are many after market parts for it and it simply works. Some people don't like the texture, finger grooves ( in the Gen 3, 4) and the trigger feel.

Save the 1911 for when your budget increases a little. $1200 gets you into a good quality 1911 that doesn't need much. Think Colt Competition or a used STI Trojan.

Jericho is a very nice gun for the money. I personally don't like the slide mounted safety, but you may. Also, I've never heard of a .22lr conversion for one.

Glock is good as well and you can get the Advantage Arms .22lr conversion. If you buy used you can more or less sell it for what you paid.

If you decide not to go with a .22 conversion then I recommend you also take a look at a Bersa Thunder 9 Pro or the CZ75. A used CZ should be around $600-$650. A conversion is available but is very expensive.

If you shoot at crafm you can hire pistols, see if they have all three and try them.

Your not going to get a new glock 17 (gen4) in your price range.

Ill be most likely signing up at Ruisseau Noir (Been there many times with friends for skeet shooting and like the feel of the place)
Regarding the Glock17 I dont think I would go new anyways but more for a Used Gen3.

I guess renting before buying would be a good idea i'll check whats available there .. It's just I'm the kind to impulse buy things .. maybe a terrible idea when it comes to this hobby hehe.

You will need guest pass at crafm and a member to hire the pistols for you.

If you don't know any members drop me msg and we can sort something out, i can bring fn fns 9mm if you want to try something else.

I have a Jericho I like it it has approximately 40000 rounds and hasn't broke yet but when it eventually does parts are hard to come by in a timely matter and are expensive. Mags are pricey not a great selection of holsters,no .22 conversion I'm aware of. For the money it's a good pistol for the casual shooter. I had a glock17 I personally did not like it,trigger pull mostly, mags are expensive, lots of after market parts and holsters to chose from, very easy to take care of. I would recommend trying the trigger or shooting one first. 1911's I own 2 and had a third I love them I think they are easy to shoot, durable and the aftermarket is endless. Yes there is a learning curve to stripping and cleaning but that should not scare you off, like others have said save your money and stay away from Norcs, sti' sand colts can be had for around $1200 new or less used. And .22 kits are available. But in my option for around $900 you can get a cz shadow, you can get a .22 conversion, parts are everywhere mags are reasonably priced great trigger out of the box. I don't really have anything bad to say about the cz.

I think the best idea is see if a local gun shop & range has rentals: it is always worth it to try them out and see what you like. I have nothing against a Glock other than I can't shoot one as well as metal frame pistols. I had a Glock, wanted to know why i couldn't shoot sh!t with it and then went to a range and rented some pistols... VIOLA! I can shoot just fine with the pistols that suit me.

Otherwise, you'll probably help keep our EE in fine operation.

1. Norinco. Had one, fell apart on me in no time, sold it for parts.
2. Jericho 941, sights moved on their own, sold that too.
3. Glock 17. Cleaned it once, approx. 1500 rds later with no issues at all and really only cleaned it for something to do.

You cannot go wrong with a Glock.

The Glock wins hands down if this is important to you followed by the 1911 and the Jericho a distant third.

As was already mentioned try them in your hands first, they are all very different guns.
