Do you hunt with your tactical shotgun?

Sure do! Rem 870 Tactical with Magpul Stock and Forend, single point sling. Makes a great slug/turkey gun. Heck, I can even shoot skeet and trap with it. Shot a 23/25 in trap the other weekend, definitely got some angry looks from the $12,000 trap gun crowd...

Its fun catching them early on, but when they get way out there its a lot harder! I did the same thing and beat everybody that day. its more forgiving I find too!
And yes, I do hunt with my 18 inch 870. its the perfect length for in the woods..

I'd have no hesitation plopping most animals with a slug from my STF 12... Very accurate slug gun. I'd have to thread off the muzzle brake though, it's waaaayyy to loud for hunting.

I thread in a full choke and just hold the ghost ring sights right on the clay, bang and smash. Like you say, a lot easier to catch them close.

I've used my Derya Mk 10 to drop a turkey at 60y with a vortex spitfire. And used my UTS-15(plugged of course) for a rabbit hunt. For duck I use my 30" over under because I don't hunt over decoy and most of my shots are 3" loaded magnums and some high up birds.

Have one of the first Vortex AMG's on order already!

Ill be using my versamax for skeet, trap, hunting and everything else in between. I sold 3 shotguns to fund this build ;)

Do you hunt with your tactical shotgun?

Simple answer: NO

Proper fit for tactical is short stock, barrel, and length of pull. Proper fit for hunting is balance, length of pull and good barrel weight for swing. Its not that you can't kill birds with a tactical shotgun, its simply a poor design for wing shooting.

I think the Versamax Tactical would be a great gun for hunting and skeet. I'd like to try one.

Next year the H Optima is coming with me and I may leave the 870 at home. The Optima eats below 3 inchs as well. Its plastic and coated metal. Better protected than the 870 gainst the elements.

BB - nice tip on the fiberglass plug. You proving the adaptability...priceless.

I'm getting low on firewood. Which sucks as I thought my stash sufficient. Regrettably, it is not.

Next year, Optima for the birdies and local deer.

Yes the adjustability of the stock is awesome. You can increase or decrease the LOP depending on the application and what you plan on using it for that day. All I have left to find is a shorter barrel.

I have the Tactical stock on the way from Brownells.

TacOrd also did a great job upgrading the parts that sucked :p

My brother took 2 deer with his Dominion Arms Grizzly shotgun and rifled slugs last year.
He was on the push through bush fairly thick with alders and switches and he said that shotgun was the fastest pointing firearm he ever used.
He used to carry a Remington Gamemaster Model 760 Carbine 30-06 but prefers the shotgun.

Cheers, I wouldn't hunt with it if the barrel was a shorty or not threaded for chokes. It's such a nice gun, the more I use it the more impressed I am with it. It's just got the smoothest action ever, and it's a joy to carry as it's light and it really fits me well. I just love a shotgun with a heat shield, it's likely what made me pick it up in the first place lol.

Had a trs25 on it awhile back and it was a laser with rifled slugs, I was easily hitting my 8" gong 4 out of 5 times out around 80 yards.

Think we're good in the fire wood dept this year, I keep watching it get smaller by the week though. It's warmed up a lot this last 3 weeks but with this winter who knows, we just got 18-24" in three days lol.

I guess the next question should be .... "do you wear your chest rig while hunting with your tactical shotgun" ?:shotgun::cool:

Don't have a chest rig...but the gun carries easy through the woods, points and shoots very well, and is easy to clean and take care of. Also not afraid of it getting scratches or wet or etc...if there is ONLY one firearm you can have, a "tactical shotgun" really is the most versatile and cost effective.

Agree, use mine all the time. (Tac-Ord 870)

Not a chest rig, but I wear a Cold War era East German load bearing rig. Belt with suspenders and pouches, carries all my hunting needs and anything I need in case I get stranded out in the woods overnight. Eliminates the need for a packpack which is nice.

I hunt with mine but i had to add a choke adaptor tube for better paterns.

SKS sling for the win! Lol

I hunted rabbit with an 18.5" cylinder bore 12ga for years and years. Still do once in a while.

Hunt goose with my m4 and m2 tac 18.5" guns
out of a blind with premium shells, they work just fine for me. obviously 3.5" shells and a extra 10" barrel would be better suited
however I don't have much of a problem, im looking into good benelli chokes for it as well if anyone has any suggestions ;)
