Trade up to an X95 or keep my tavor? Can't decide

Hi Folks, I was wondering if the good people of CGN could help me make a very important life decision.

In light of the imminent arrival of the X95, I am thinking it might be time to 'trade up' to one of these new rifles by selling my original tavor and buying a new X95 when they become available.

Is this X95 superior enough to the TAR-21 to make it worth the expense to upgrade to this rifle? I've looked around a lot online and was unable to find much info comparing the two rifles. I do love my tavor and just the thought of getting something even just a little better really has me excited.

If someone can chime in and tell me some of the pro's and con's of each and in their opinion if its worth switching, I would really appreciate it.

X95 Improvements: Bolt hold open, magazine release, charging handle location , QD mounts, Usable front rail, and replaceable grip


I will admit the styling of the Tar21 is a bit nicer. But the X95 is more user friendly.


Best of all, all the crap I had for the Tavor fits the X95 :dancingbanana: :cool: :dancingbanana:

Have you heard anything about the accuracy and reliability of the two? Do you know if its the same internals or totally new design?
 
X95 is for CQB, if you want to sit on your butt and shoot groups get something else like the APC 556 or ACR

To run around and have fun the Tavor is where its at. I hope my X95 will be as much fun.
 
Had a Tavor (gen 1.5) and have handled the X95. My opinion is limited to comparing my early Tavor and just fondling with zero rounds out of the X95; so take it for what it's worth.

- bolt hold open - this is a wash
- mag release - if you absolutely must have a push button release like an AR and can't wrap your brain around the original Tavor release at the front of the mag housing, then the X-95. Personally I think the original Tavor release works just fine. Wash in my books.
- QD sling mounts - improvement on the early gen Tavors for sure.
- trigger pull and reset - advantage X95 over the stock Tavor setup.
- both the modular grip and modified location of the charging handle offer pretty minute advantages - if you can even call them that. It really boils down to personal preference .

The one thing I don't care for on the X95 is how far the top rail sat back on the receiver. Not sure if this is a carry over from earlier (later ) gen Tar-21s?

The Tar-21 I owned briefly was atrocious in the accuracy department, so I dumped it. I get that these are service guns, but for the cash these cost there is every right for consumers to demand above average accuracy comparable to similar rifles.

If you are happy with your current Tavor, I'd say keep it.
 
I'd personally never get rid of my Tavor to fund an X95. I may get one in addition, though, just because I like variety in my safe :) I've become accustomed to the Tavor ergos to the point that I really don't see a huge advantage to switching. I actually like the Tavor mag release, though the X95 charging handle location is IMHO a small improvement...
 
I'm keeping my Tavor. However like CobraGT mentioned I may see myself adding an X95 to my collection in the future.

The improvements just aren't enough for me to justify the cost difference. However if I had endless pockets I'd sure as hell pick one up instantly.
 
I'd keep your Tavor. Not sure what you paid for it but they're definitely selling for considerably less since the x95 was announced. Hard to justify taking a loss of several hundred bucks, plus the additional price of the new model just for the "improvements" of the x95.

Scraped all my shekels together to get an X95, and it seems it will address most of my gripes with the original Tavor

It's slightly smaller, me mates Tar 21 is just a little bit too bulky for my liking.
The charging handle position has been reworked, i hated it up front like that, my tiny frame couldnt grasp and actuate it properly

modular pistol grip, can swap out grip size, because baby hands.
 
Thanks for the info guys! I will carefully consider the pros and cons and make my decision. I do rather like the idea of keeping the Tavor and eventually getting an X95 though. Decisions decisions!! haha

Actually it's a tiny bit longer. I compared it when I was at Calg Shooting Center this weekend. The buttpad adds length.
And as I understand it, they don't make different sizes of grips. The only changeability is standard pistol grip or knuckle bow grip, all one size (according to IWI's site)

Length wasnt the issue, it was bulk. and the pistol grip panels can be swapped out, sort of akin to an M&P9. so sayeth american reviewers.
 
Depends on what you want!
X95:
Bolt-Release: Essentially the same
Charging Handle: I think it's in a worse position in terms of being a snag point and annoyance, but a better position for having a shorter bar, less flex
Forward assist: I hear the X95 has one, Tavor doesn't. Nothing to sneeze at.
Magazine Release: I think the original is reliable and intuitive, X95's is better for looking cool on camera. Would not trust mags to drop free from either, so what you gain is debatable.
Pistol Grip/replaceable handguard: Shape of X95 handguard and foreend clearly abandons the "6 points of contact" concept which is a shame because that's what made the original Tavor so effortless to fire offhand.
Rails: Definitely more mounting space for doodads, if you have them. Do you have any?
Sling mounts: QD sockets in more locations is definitely more flexible than the IDF paracord method on the Tavor.
