Ideas to get a smle mk3 to fit better?

Recently got an smle mk3 sporter, which I want to try and restore to its original configuration eventually. Bore is actually mint.

Anyway I think the length of pull is way too short for me? When I shoulder it, I'm basically using my lower jaw as a "cheek" weld to see the sights properly. Not ideal obviously.

What's the best solution without any permanent modifications? A slip on recoil pad or a cheek riser? And are these suppose to be a really short lop? Are the British that small? Lol

From what I've noticed, the length of pull is generally the same across the board with the Lee Enfields. How do other LE's feel to you.

I personally would go with the butt pad idea you have, especially if you don't want to make any permanent mods.

SMLE butt came in 4 lengths. Bantam, short ,normal and long. Heel of butt should be stamped B, S, no mark or L respectively. Slip on pad is best bet.

From a standing or sitting position?

Lengthening the stock might not do anything to help with your chin weld problem. The Lee series of rifles has one of the worst stock designs found on any military arm. It looks like it took it's inspiration direct from an Arab camel gun. Heresy I know, but I said it anyway. The No. 4T sniper rifles had a cheek piece added to give better support when using a scope, but it really just gets your eye up high enough to use the open sights well. The outrageous amount of drop at the comb and heel is one of the biggest reasons I could never get warm and fuzzy about owning a Lee Enfield.

Check the markings on the butt, as per green's post, #4. If you haven't got a normal or Long, go shopping. Add a Beartooth comb-raising kit. It's a neoprene sleeve with several closed-cell foam pads of different thicknesses that you mix and match under the sleeve to get the right height for you.
