I have been reading lots lately on optics on here and other sights and it seems lately everyone is talking about vortex pst or vipers or the new nightforce models and some of the Burris models xtr 2.

I may be wrong but it seemed like a short while back the buzz was with the sightron scopes 8-32 and 10-50 models, I have not heard much about the tac models? Are they no longer in the game and the vortex train is taking over now?

Have two vortex 4x16 hst moa first one had tracking right out of box thought just a glitch sent back waited 3 months to get back works alright , bought second one after trying to get sighted in another tracking problem sent second one in two weeks ago no answer yet!
Have gone to Sightron STAC 4x20 and a 3x16 no problems and 4 times the optic for money!
No more Vortex!

Sightron raised their prices to Nightforce levels

only drawback to sightron s3 is not as many "features" as the more popular "tactical" scopes. eg: zero stops, multiple reticle choices, turret rev indicator etc.
The glass and tracking are excellent.

Wow - I didn't know the prices jumped that much! On the bright side, the Stac 2.5-17 is still about $300 less then the leupold VX6 3-18, which is ridiculously overpriced, but also my favorite scope.

Also impressed to see the weight on the 2.5-17x56 is 20.8 ounces which is about the same as leupold. (my vx6 weight 19.5, website shows 21oz).

I'd love to see a side x side comparison.

Sightron needs to switch to SF instead of using AO's on their SI's and SII's scopes. It's the only reason i don't have any Sightron scope on my rifles. Love their scopes but AO is crap IMHO.

Little help with acronyms please - SF? AO?

Ok so, it took a little longer to figure out. SF = side focus? AO= Adjustable Objective? Yes?

STAC has side focus/parallax.

Their FFP offerings are slim and lack many of the features that are now considered standard features in a tactical scope. They have fallen behind because they have failed to listen to what the consumer wants.

Features? No zero stop, no side parallax and the reticle isn't great... Not hard to beat these days. I would take an XTR2, a PST2 or an Athlon over the S3 any day of the week.

im not sure what can beat a sightron S3 in terms of: zoom, price, features, quality.

^this. Compared to allot of guys on CGN, my experience with really good scopes is probably limited. Until recently, the 2 best I've owned were a Vortex Viper HS 4-16 and a Leupold VX3 6.5-20. Vortex on a .223, the VX3 on a .204R. The VX3, the Vortex and the Leupold are now gone and a Sightron S3 sits on the .223. Happier with that arrangement than 2 guns with 2 pretty good scopes. The scope I bought before the S3 was an S1 to put on my 22LR gopher gun. Not a fancy scope by any means, but the nicest I've used in that price range. Take it from me~a guy who has owned more $50-$250 scopes than I care to admit. :)

The S3 is nothing short of remarkable. Thanks to a buddy who has deeper pockets, I've tried Swaro, US Optics, Leupold Mark-something and his S3. The S3 was the most memorable, AND the best price compared to at least the SWARO and US Optics. So to the question~nothing BUT Sightron for me in the foreseeable future. I am looking to add a .204R back to the mix down the road, and an S2 or STAC will no doubt get the nod.

Still a grossly outdated reticle, no zero stop or illumination. They need to get with the times if they want to compete in tac scope arena.
