tossing around the idea of putting a scope on my ruger alaskan. Because the recoil is up there compared to most hunting rifles what would stand up? I'm leaning to a lower powered variable something 2x7 or 3x9. how are the Nikon scopes when it comes to ruggedness and recoil. A friend of mine said his alaskan eats scopes leupold and ziess included.

I put a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x20 on my Ruger RSM in 375H&H. Used Alaska Arms QD rings. Slick setup.

Cheers
Jay

The Nikon Omega 3-9x40mm that's on my 416 Ruger Alaskan has been holding up to the recoil. Has a constant 6" of eye relief even when set at 9x. Good optics, very clear and bright.

I've got a VX3 1.5-5 on aCZ 375. Good scope, not enough mag for what I do. Had a Vortex Diamondback on a Mossberg 375. Ate the first one, #2 isn't dead yet, but I don't trust it. I've looked at the Sightron STAC. I would go that way or a 2.5-8 VX3.

not a fan of the 20mm objective. kills so much light when hunting in the evening. Won't go that route again.

I've never had issue with any leupold and was thinking the 2.5-8 would be great match. Nikon has just peaked my interest lately. if I could find another trijicon I would go that route but they have gone up significantlu in price

2 Leupold scopes have broken on my rifles: FX-II 6x42mm and VX-3 1.5-5x20mm. Both worked great right up until the shot that broke these. :p

No issues to date with any Nikon or Bushnell products.

The vx 3 2.5-8 fits perfectly in the Ruger rings without having to get offset mounts.
And a B&C recticle will get you the additional reach that a 375 ruger is capable of.

mine worn a redfield 2-7x33 with warne QD rings the rings broke two times then i went for LLC QD made for lefty side and wears for now a bushnell 1.25-4x24 30mm with german 4 on it.
