I prefer a ballistic reticle like the B&C. It's a bit cluttered for me, a thinner one like one of the the varmint ones if I was ordering exactly what I wanted. The 375H&H/Ruger is very capable of long range if it isn't loaded down to reduce recoil. The rifle/optic system is more often built for close range and easy carry in these calibers though. A light 375 isn't conducive to long range accuracy from field positions.

2 Leupold scopes have broken on my rifles: FX-II 6x42mm and VX-3 1.5-5x20mm. Both worked great right up until the shot that broke these.
No issues to date with any Nikon or Bushnell products.
I'm curious what rifles did this? I've always went for leupold to avoid this

And, in a pair of Winchester model 70's Super Express that I have, on them are similar scopes. 1-4 Leupold Vari X II. The bottom one is in a closely related calibre, 375 H&H and it's big brother above in 458 WM

.45-70 Ruger No.1 firing 500gr bullets at 1900 fps. Scope buster.
I had a .450 NE 3 1/4" Ruger No. 1. Regular load was 500 grain @ 2100 fps, but I took a 500 grain to 2450 fps.
Nikon Monarch 3 1-4x20mm held up fine.
Just to be clear, the .375 (whether chatfield, H&H or pretender), is capable of more than a 1.5-5 can do IMOP...... but a scope needs to match the intended use.... not just the rifle's capability......
BUT... for most folks' intended use of a 375, the 1.5-5 is certainly right in the wheelhouse.... and perfect for me...... and it seems many others as well.....

I love my Nikon 1.5-4.5 Monarch. Great clarity & repeatability even after spending a fair time on a Diana 52 spring piston air rifle. A springer of this power will soon let one know how good their scope & mounting system is fer sure.
I've have no worries mounting mine on any rifle in my bunch when the mood suits. On the .375 Ruger, it would be

I have a Leupold VX-2 1-4x20mm on my 458 Lott that is holding up to the recoil but I don't load it too hot. The FX-II Ultralight 2.5x20mm and the old 4x28mm Compact have held up over the years.

Scoped the Tropical weighs about 10 lbs with the 24" heavy barrel compared to my scoped 1-S that weighs 7.5 lbs with the 22" medium barrel. From conservation of momentum the recoil speed can be calculated -
Tropical: 2450 fps x 500 gr / (10 lbs x 7000 gr/lb) = 17.5 fps
1-S: 1900 fps x 500 gr / (7.5 lbs x 7000 gr/lb) = 18.1 fps
Recoil is a bit sharper with the .45-70 1-S.
I wouldn't be too concerned. I've had to send a couple of Leupolds for repair, but I still have confidence in them. But I've had to have almost every optic companies product repaired at one point.

Yeah, I far prefer the 2.5-8. After using both, I can't think of a situation where I would want a 1.5-5 instead.
The Boddington .450 NE No. 1 shipped with the "C" contour barrel instead of the normal D contour on most tropicals. Which is why I sold it, too light for cartridge. It weighed 7.8 lbs bare. Scope and rings were probably 16-20 oz, but I can't recall. Eventually I made a tube filled with lead shot that fit into the butt stock that added 12 oz. Scope ed and with the lead tube it came to 9.5 lbs. Can't recall if I had the lead tube in the butt stock when I took the loads to 2450 fps.

Recoil would be a bit wicked in a lighter rifle. I don't load my 458 Lott very fast. It's capable of firing a 500gr bullet at 2350 fps or 350gr at 2700 fps. My hunting loads are 350gr TSX at 2500 fps or 500gr RN at 1900 fps.
