Looking for a little help from the you more knowledgeable people. I've been toying with getting a Lee Enfield for a little while. I'm not enough of a stickler to care about having an original gun (although it would be nice) Having said that, a local shop has one that looks to be in decent shape for 200 bucks. That reasonable or over priced?

If I decide down the road that I don't like the sporter look and want to wrap it in original type furniture is that something that can be done? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Funny, I have one and worth $100ish and bought $500 worth of original wood to restore it to "original". Not that I care particularly as it was a sentimental inheritance and an self-directed restoration. Will post pics when it is done.

No1 sporters used to go for $75, and that's currently all a non-restorable is worth (drilled for scope mounts, etc). Restorable Sporters have been flying off the EE for 150-200, when in great condition.

Very cool.

Where are you guys seeing $75 guns? I've never seen anything close to that.

For those wondering unless I'm really missing something I'd say that this one is in restorable condition.

$200 is too much, unless it is a very nice commercial conversion with nice sporter wood.

#1 sporters go for $75 to $150.

While I fully agree with you $200 is too much, I don't know what they really go for, but the asking prices are always at around $200 and go way up to over $300.

Hard pressed to buy a mag and a bolt for $75.

This is true - the days of cheap Enfields are pretty much over. As the originals become more and more expensive, so do the Sporters. Wood is getting rare - I've seen sets sell for $350 to $600 in the last few weeks!

Just bought one they go for around $200 with shipping. Unfortunately most of the lee enfield spare parts and wall hangers are gone. Getting it back to original looking condition is hard next to impossible right now without parts. I expect a exponential increase in the next next few years. That $200 Enfield Sporter will be $300-500 in the next 5 years or so. The ones complete and matching are going to jump even more.

you won`t find a $75 sporter on the EE. private deals only with people who don`t know or care what they got. some people want beer money for grampa`s old gun. thats how i got mine with 2 mags. $60 in 2013. i helped another non CGN guy find one, $75 no mag. talk to people, get to know your neighbours. follow leads, you`ll find the ones that people want gone, sometimes they even give them away.....
oh and if anyone is looking, i know where to find newly made upper front hand guards

this is true, I've been given 3 over the last few years and also bought a few with mags for under 100 dollars, both no4's and no1's

I have paid 150 for no1 mk3 factory sporter. It was hard to get all the parts for military configuration. They aren't period correct but at least i will have military gun.
