Hey guys,

Has anyone heard anything about this new rifle?

From a company called West Rifle, apparently being made for them by Kodiak Defense.
Looks to be basically a re-branded 858/vz-58

Not sure if they have modified the design at all to make it a new rifle or if they are simply stamping their name on 858 receivers (dont know where they found some lol)

If it is truly a Canadian manufactured 858 clone this would be awesome news.
They are in pre-order status currently with not much information available.

Sorry Guys I was away at shot show and had no access to CGN.

I know there is many questions asked.

First of all 62 % of the guns are sold so far. Thank you dealers and private owners for placing orders.

I know that WR762 will be successful rifle in Canada and USA

Holy ****, that receiver marking looks like something off a Chinese crate of 7.62x39, lol! Was it done with an electro-sharpie and retouched with liquid paper?

I wonder how the RCMP gun lab will classify this "WR762"... because the last time someone tried to rename a CZ858, it didn't go so well.

I prepaid for one, I'll do up a review if/when I receive mine. It's basically a Canadian made cz858 clone made on brand new Canadian receivers. FRT is already published, compatible with CZ858/VZ58 parts afaik.

Reference: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...ed-21-DEC-2016-HK243-Prohibited?highlight=FRT

It's Non-Restricted/Restricted depending on barrel length.

Ya, it's non-restricted because it's a CZ-858, BUT... so was Wolverine's "Spartan Limited Edition" Vz-58. The gun lab decided the FRT to be "prohibited" because the fancy new name makes it a new firearm to seek classification. As I said, it will be interesting to see what happens to the "WR762"... maybe it's all good because of the newly-manufactured receiver, but then again, who knows! We've seen them revert their decisions quite a few times in the past.

The lesson from Wolverine's experiment seems to be: WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CHANGE THE F***ING NAME OF THE THING!

(which is exactly what Westrifle just did!)

Most cz858s made after 2006 are all deemed converted autos.

The specific models by name were exempted from prohibition by oic. The oic listed specific named models, but not variants of those models.

A change in the model name means it doesn't align with the oic exemption... and thus as a converted auto it is prohib. If wolverine stuck to calling it by one of the oic names it would be fine. They shot themselves in the foot so to speak playing this spartan naming sales game.

Welcome to legal language 101.

The WR762 is a vz58 built on a semi auto brand new receiver. It is no different than why the csa guns are classed the way they are and never impacted by the cz858 issues.
