Anyone rUn strictly iron sights on their AR

I have always wanted to run an AR with just irons, never did it though

About half and half , love the old school carrying handle A1's and A2's , but at the same time these old eye really like a nice red dot sight .

I run optics often because I feel that's what I should do. But man do I love irons. I just ordered some KAC micro 2-600m irons for my Modern Varmint. I almost exclusively use the irons on my Swiss. I'm thinking it will be the same on my AR. Possibly just run an aimpoint for 3 gun.

If I had an old A1 style AR, I wouldn't mount anything on the top of the carry handle sight. With a flat top ar, I run irons exclusively for "oh crap" moments.

I have an AR with an A2 lower (that looks like an A1 - no fence around mag release) and an A1 upper and all I use is the irons.

I find that I don't like chin weld shooting (which is what you gotta do with a optic mounted on top of the carry handle) as I'm nowhere near as accurate as with normal cheek weld.

I have one AR with a carry handle attached that I shoot with only iron sights. Can't use it for more than 50yrds 'cause old eyes.

I run irons on one of my AR's. Have a red dot on the other. Personally I think there is a distinct art to shooting accurately with irons.

Irons only on: AR, and everything else. Optics are good, but too many people rely on them so much that they wouldn't know what to do should a glass failure occur.

I run irons only on one of mine- a flat top nea. Want to have some variety and having the skill to shoot with irons is worth having.

I only use the flip up iron sights on my bushmaster AR. Nowadays, shooting with iron sights is becoming a lost art. It's too bad

Been using irons on my AR for 25 years, as I do want an oh sh_t moment if an optical sight gets bumped and you cannot put a pill where it needs to go.

principal has served my well, as I find irons are great for double taps on paper.

Have a scope, but more for display.

Thanks for the replies , I too feel that people are far to reliant on optics , on pistols as well , my uncle who taught me a lot about shooting always said "master the irons on any weapon you have and then upgrade to a scope" good advice , I'm sure it all depends on the shooting you do.

Do you not run buis and quick detach mounts?

What the heck is the negative of a solid optic like an acog or an elcan with BUIS???? A little more weight is all the negative I see.

I can shoot with iron sights and find them more challenging/fun than using a red dot but I think they were designed for soldiers who had good eye sight!

I like irons and I like optics however my ar gets used for target practice and 3 gun and for both those things optics will primarily win 90% of the time. There's no denying there's something ###y about an a1 with carry handle and triangle guards.
