762x39 to 303 british MEXICAN MATCH AMMO

i have been do the X39 to 303 swap for some time - great fun loads to plink with

i recently got a bunch of 123 grn soft point bullets - any one have any ideas on powder to get similar results to X39 mexican match ammo?
I like the light recoil in the 303 for young shooters
Sorry kind of hijacked the thread - PM me any info you have thanks

Steel JACKETED bullets will. Your barrel isn't hardened steel either. And the reason nobody cares about mosins is because they're worth $100, not because steel jacketed bullets don't cause barrel wear.

"Steel jacket"???????????????????? Must be some rare, seldom encountered round.

Accurate 1608 as mentioned. IMR 4198/H4198 and H322 also work well in moderate charges.

To take the 7.62x39/.303 British thing one step further: I have a Baikal single shot rifle in 7.62x39. I am going to try the OP's idea, and, instead of throwing the primed 7.62 case away, I am going to load 5 gr. of Unique (I have a 10 lb. keg) and a 93 gr. Lee WW bullet in it and try it out at our range. :)

I have fired a pile of 30-30 loads with 5 gr. of 700X under that bullet.

You guys made me do math...

as an example I used Frontier.
7.62x39 $350 for 1500. Which is 23 cents a shot

7.62x54r is $210 for 400 which is 53 cents a shot

http://frontierfirearms.ca/s-b-packed-7-62x54r-fmj-corrosive-400-rounds-per-case-surplus/

Using budget shooter supply as my example

.310 Berry's 7.62x39 $20 for 100 is 20 cents
.310 Hornady is $34 for 100 which is 34 cents
.311 PRVI is $40 for 100 which is 40 cents

I used accurate 1680 as an example, $40/lb which is 1 cent per 2 grains so lets say you load 25gr so its 28 cents for powder

total is
48 cents for berry's; and
62 cents for hornady.
68 cents for PRVI

Factor in your own brass and primers.

Assuming that your 303 British will do .310 breaking down 7.62x39 ammo will save you 25 cents a shot compared to loading the conventional way. That's pretty legit savings. Is it worth that extra effort?

Breaking down 7.62x54r will save you about 15 cents. not bad, that is not worth the extra effort to me. Unless of course there is a shortage of .311-.312. My Enfield can shoot .308 accurately so .310 is an option for me.

I hope that math is right. please correct me if its wrong

P.S. $39 for 20 at Cabela's is $1.95 a shot (vomit)

thats where I'm at. I buy up .310 (usually at shows when guys give up handloading x39) for dirt cheap. I ordered a case of reloader19 once apon a time for and worked up my load. I already take up alot of time annealing my cases so I cant be bothered pulling projectiles until theres a shortage

Well, I ordered 1000 123 gn projectiles from CanadaAmmo to try this out.
I have about 100 .303 casings and some Varget on the shelf.
How about 25 gn as a starting load?
