Okay guys, I am looking to pick up a good shotgun to use for goose hunting, 500-1000 dollars, any advice? I had a pump 870 but found it lacking. I frequent a lot of auctions and sales and can go 2nd hand but need some input!

Cheers,

Winchester sxp waterfowl edition or if you want to spend a little more the Benelli nova/supernova. The sxp has been my go to for waterfowl and upland since it was released.

Here's some advice save another &200-300 and buy a sx3 or a maxus or a 300 outlander and stay away from the off shore junk and the entry level brand name such as the 870 express .mossberg maverick and so on . You get what you pay for

You have to spend some time trying out as many shotguns as you can. Try and find one that really Fitts you. Aims were you are looking. I close my eyes and point the gun at a spot in have picked out earlier. After you raise the gun open your eyes .do you see the ribs or the bead can you see all the target or just the top of it. I have found that browning fit me best..

Ok guys thanks for the input! nothing wrong with the 870, but fixed full choke and only 2 3/4 shells. supprized at the SXP fans, my buddy got one and the plastic piece at just where you load shells broke within the first two boxes of shells.... maybe he got the lemon.
as it happens was at the olds auction in alberta and picked up a browning A500G semi that takes up to 3 inch shells for 500 bucks.... mint condition.... per my research I think I got a good deal - input?

I am surprised you would take one man's experience with an sxp but disregard the experience of many with the a500g. You should consider stripping it completely and cleaning it. That model has issues and your 870 with bismuth shot (full choke) will be much more reliable than that particular model of browning.
