im still trying to figure out why the hell that short barrel has a Bentz chambering....
Thanks, that is high praise coming from you GCD, since I have seen many of the very cool toys in your collection.
Why not? My 6" McGowan also has a Bentz chamber. The AT Charger barrel uses the Bentz chamber to achieve 3/8" or less groups at 50 yds with match ammo, and runs like a sewing machine on bulk ammo. I don't see a down side, other than not being able to fire Stingers.
A fellow named kave on RFC hand built a custom red dot mount for a Ruger take down barrel, that replaces the rear sight. I am thinking of something similar on my Ruger barrel but maybe with a long eye relief handgun scope mount:
Maybe mount a 2x or 4x handgun scope on a similar base with a single large scope ring?

The barrel is never restricted, but the rifle would be if it was reduced to under 26" by folding, telescoping, etc and was still able to fire, which is not the case here. Also, freezer filler is correct, the o/a length with the short barrel is 27 3/4".

These two went to the range today to decide which would be my Steel Challenge rifle from now on, the winner gets the C-More red dot.
This was the winner:
I was thrilled with the performance of this combination at the range. The rifle with the Adaptive Tactical barrel devoured every type of bulk ammo that I tried and fired extremely fast and flawlessly. This is great since my previous Steel Challenge rifle (with the wood stock in the upper picture) would only cycle reliably at high speed using Mini Mags. Now I can use American Eagle which is only 60% of the cost of Mini Mags. This adds up when you are firing 300-400 rounds at a time . I am thinking I may cut down the rail, if I am going to keep the C-More on this barrel.

A few minor updates:
I finally managed to find a source for the VQ cantilever TD barrel here in Canada:
AZ**CH Armory was good enough to import one for me at a good price. I just noticed tonight that they are also back in stock at Sylvestre Sporting Goods. Mine should arrive in a few weeks.
I also recently received word from Brownells that the Magpul Backpacker optic mount has been shipped. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to post more info and pictures.

is there a difference between that VQ one and the adaptive tactical one you already have?
I hope there is. From what I have read (mainly on Rimfire Central) the VQ should be significantly more accurate at longer ranges with a medium to large scope. The design of the cantilever rail on the AT barrel is somewhat flexible, which becomes a problem with a larger heavier scope. When I experimented by mounting my Sightron 6x-24x scope on the AT barrel, the results were not good. I hope to mount a 4x-16x or larger scope on the VQ with much better results. That is the plan anyway.

That is beyond awesome. Am I right in understanding that it's this barrel:http://www.adaptivetactical.com/products/tachammer-rcb-barrel-rail-22-charger-takedown.php you mounted? Did you have any issues mounting it, or was it pretty much plug&play?
Yes, that is the barrel. It mounted easily and it is easy to switch between the 2 different barrels. The only possible issues with mounting the AT barrel are that:
A) it does not come with the takedown catch hardware (seen below the barrel in this picture):
I guess they expect you to rob the parts from the oem barrel. However, I wanted to continue to use both barrels so needed to find a source for the TD hardware. I found a complete 10/22 TD minus the receiver for sale on the EE - I kept the TD catch parts and sold the remaining items, so the parts I needed were basically free.
B) it does not come with a forend and neither the Ruger nor Magpul rifle forends will fit without significant modification. To be fair to Adaptive Tactical, the barrel was intended for the charger pistol, not the rifle.

New Magpul parts arrived from Brownells
Here is the SGA cheek riser (.5") and Backpacker X-22 Optic mount installed:
You can still use the iron sights even with the optic mount installed, there is a small opening in the mount that lines up with the sights.

Machining Magpul Hunter stock to accept Backpacker Optic Mount
Since the Magpul Hunter stock was not designed for the X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount, some of the inner barrel tray must be removed in order to provide enough room for the Optic Mount. Luckily my shooting buddy Elimsprint is a talented amateur machinist and gunsmith and he was kind enough to set up his milling machine today and make the required modification for me. For anyone else thinking of mounting the Optic Mount, here are a few close-up pictures:
