Lead Free 22LR (any in Canada?)

Hi guys and gals,

Anyone know where to find lead free 22LR?

Winchester Super X Lead Free 22LR and CCI 22 Copper are the two most obvious options.

Some say CCI stingers are lead free but they clearly state that they are a plated lead hollow point on the box.

Any dealers stocking them? Or have some on order?
 
I haven't seen any around here. What would you expect the cost per round to be for lead free .22LR? I'm almost afraid to ask.
 
The plan would be to use a few for sight in, and switch to copper for grouse and rabbit. Volume would be small, but on the off chance of a breast hit, a little less lead in my lunch.
 
CCI has a lead free option, can't recall the name . Google is your friend. I've only seen them once locally (NS). Don't recall them being terribly expensive. As you mentioned already you will need to sight in especially for this round as they are much lighter than the typcial lead .22
 
I have used the cci option. Worked ok, poi was pretty close to whatever I had used prior. The round was brownish coloured. It was special order at lgs - maybe $15 for a pack of 50. But that was quite short distance
Also tried the wmr and hmr options. The wmr worked well, the 17 was a bit bigger groupin than had expected, but not in ideal conditions.

Sight in with what you're going to use. Different ammo POI can vary quite a bit.

I think you're really over thinking the amount of affect a lead bullet would have on your lunch.
 
There wont be lots in my lunch.. but I'm also trying to be mindful of the hawk/owl/eagle's lunch. They will pick up whatever scraps hunter's leave behind, including rabbit heads and grouse gut piles.
I've switched to copper for all of my big game hunting for that reason. A few studies out of the northern US the last few years are finding lots of eagles dying from lead poisoning.. the source is fishing tackle and gut piles from hunters.
Won't change the world, but it's an easy change to make and hopefully keep a few individual birds from getting sick.
