So my CZ452 american showed up today, and I got a nice surprise. I purchased the 452 American in beech wood, and was ok with knowing that it was a lighter wood, that (IMO) wasn't as nice as the walnut on my 452 varmint.

I opened up the box today, and even though the box and receipt say beech, I don't think it is. This looks pretty damn close to my walnut stock, and looks nothing close to as light/blonde color as what they're supposed to as per google images.

What I was expecting:

I am certainly not complaining, but was curious if anyone else has experienced this?

I thought you got a Scout model...I was going to ask where you got it! :) Looking to add a Scout to the collection eventually.

Can't see the grain well enough in your photo, add some light and I'll take a guess.

Nice rifle, and yep it's beech. I recently bought the exact same one, 452 American with beech stock/matte receiver. They were originally destined for the Australian market. I love it, and wouldn't trade it for a walnut/gloss receiver model, having owned one previously. I don't know what all the hoopla is about when it comes to the looks of walnut. Sure walnut can be really nice, but so can beech. I like the looks of the stocks on my American, and my Ultra Lux (beech as well), just as much, if not more than the walnut stocked CZs I've owned. Great character, and beech is tough too.

Plus, the beech Americans are a special run. Not a lot of them out there, making it a unique rifle.

Jory, the rifle shown in Post #6 is clearly beech. The medullary rays characteristic of beech are easily seen.

CZ made 452 Americans with beech stocks for the Australian market in 2014, and perhaps since. I bought one of them two years ago and the CZ box had "Australia" on it. The rifle has a matte receiver.

The beech stocked rifles were available for a little less than the walnut models. Recently a Canadian dealer on the west coast had beech stocked Americans available.

My BRNO is beech,it might not have the figure and grain of walnut, but it's a very good hardwood and besides I have nothing against Blondes...

Yep, beech for sure...but very nice looking. I wouldn't be disappointed with a rifle like that. All this CZ talk is making me want another! :)

Thanks for the tips, guys! It certainly is a nice unit, and it's going to be hard for me to resist shooting it! It's a lot lighter than my varmint, but not quite as pretty.

Frick I miss my cute lil scout! Sold that honey for like 375$ !:( then find out it's hard to get one. Was gonna replace it down the road. Poop......! I still have a new skinners peep sight for a cz 452!

I wouldn't mind a beech stock, but I'm looking for an American with a gloss finish receiver, like I once had and regretfully sold, to match my 17m2 American.
