Bobcat in my tree

Bit of a funny situation at my place this morning... Wife called me from downstairs and said "There are FIVE coyotes behind our fence!". Now one or two is fairly common (I live right on the west limit of Calgary), but five?

Sure enough - they are milling about and generally just standing there. About 10 magpies in the trees. What the heck? Wife says "what are they DOING?"... Well, I look up and see what's drawing their attention...

Bobcat wasn't going anywhere with those dogs around! So opened the patio door and the coyotes scattered (they have learned to avoid my presence!) And about 5 minutes later the kitty climbed down and wondered off along my back fence.

Pretty cool - saw another one (actually probably same one) a few months back with some kittens too. Apparently rare in AB and around these parts, but I've seen them 5-6 times now in my back yard.

Another picture from the last round (back in November)... only one kitten here, but there were two. :) Hard to get good focus on them with all the trees in the way, and wife didn't know how to manual focus!

Their camo is pretty 'spot on' for this area! ;)

That's downright entertaining.
Feather's figured on an easy meal?

Too bad you are in city limits.
Would of been a fun Yote` day.

No doubt! It's funny - when I look out my back window and see more than one magpie, it's almost a guarantee that I'll see a coyote within a few minutes. They follow them (or lead them?) all around my place. A quasi-symbiotic relationship of sorts is my guess.

So beautiful. Thanks for saving them from those pesky coyotes.

I think a Bobcat based on spots and ear tufts...but since I am just learning about these cats...what do I know?!? Terrific pictures though...and I am envious of your sighting!

100% it's a bobcat. Longer tail than lynx, shorter legs, and no ear tufts. Different color scheme too. Apparently Calgary is near the northern edge of their range.

Definitely Bobcats. We live in the land of Lynx, and they are enough different to spot instantly.
Very small ear tufts. The unique spots and smaller feet. BTW, Beautiful picture!! Love to see
these gorgeous cats. Dave.

bobcat\lynx, they are close enough that I call them both the same thing, and don't care which is which.
