Value of used G17 gen 4? And desirability of G17 gen 2?

What's fair market value for a G17 gen 4 with a few hundred rounds through it? Someone I know is selling one (possibly to me). They can't recall what they paid a few years back, and don't know what to ask for it. I don't want to overpay, but I also don't want to rip them off.

I also know someone who is looking to sell a G17 gen 2 likely for cheap. How do these hold up to the gen 3's and 4's? Is the older 2 pin design as strong as the new 3 pin? He said it's kind of finicky with ammo. Any idea why this might be, and was it a common issue? Might be a simple fix for all I know.

Thanks!

A G17 whether gen 3 or 4 shouldn't be finicky with any kind of factory ammo.

If a low round count Gen 4 came up on the EE for $550 I'm sure it would be sold within minutes.

Used prices for a Gen 4 G17 are generally a bit higher than $550. That's more in the M&P range.

The price is not a ripoff if both parties agree to it, be it $10 or $1000. New a 17 is around $1000 and being used an average price would be $700 and the Gen 4 guns came with three mags not two. The gen 2 17 is fine if you're ok with no rail on the dustcover. No they aren't as strong as the three pin but they also don't really need a third pin, that was intended for the .40cal Glocks and soon adopted for all models as a logistics move. A fair price on a gen 2 would be around $500.

This is how I'd put it as well.

I sold my Gen 3, never fired, Trijicon night sights for $800+shipping a few weeks ago.

It depends on the condition of your gun, any upgrades you did, sights, trigger job, etc. I'd say you should get about $700 for the stock gun with all the accessories, plastic sights etc.

The $550s that people talk about might be mispriced stock guns, probably 10K+ rounds and they will disappear in minutes.

There was a nice looking gen2 Glock 17 that sold pretty quick on EE yesterday for $600... If it's in a good shape it will get gen 3 prices easy since not a lot of them around. Personally I prefer gen 2 over 3. Gen 4 g17 goes for $700-850 on EE these days.
