Lipseys Ruger No.1A 275 rigby

Ha! I have one that is marked just like that! Haven't fired it yet, though. Hunted with a Ruger 1A 7x57 for many years, sold it for no real good reason, decided I had to have one back in the herd. Used with a Leupold M8-6x36; lots of whitetail and several mule deer with 150 Partitions, RL19 powder, Fed 210 primers and Remington brass - 2800 fps, as per my notes.

I scrounged up 400pcs Hornady 175gr RNs last week. Hard to find.

Mine has not been fired yet either. Waiting for lower/extended rings and a Leupold 1.5-5 to show. The 24" bbl did it for me more than the bbl stamp.

I have lots of 7mm bullets here all the way from 120gr Nosler BTs up to 175gr RNs for the full Fudd effect. I hope it shoots!

The M8-4x in #3 rings will have to do for now.

That is alot of scope tube cantilevered over the rear ring... I always thought that Ruger should have made the offset rings in the #3 & #5 heights also... did you try the #4's with the 4BO in the rear position?

Beautiful rifles in a most excellent classic chambering! With a 24" barrel impressive bullet speeds are assured.

Hmm. It has been at least a month since I did this, and you would think I could remember what I tried for sure? I do have the offset #4 - was using them on both the former 1A 7x57 and on the 30-06 RSI that's hiding in the back row of the cabinet. I am thinking that there was interference with the front bell and that rear sight when I tried to mount the M8-6x and the #4's - hemmed and hawed and settled on the M8-4x with the #3's. Not real certain what it will end up with.

Interesting ergonomics on this rifle - for me, the great looking express sights (rear has white line and nice big white front bead) are almost impossible to line up - I must press my cheek hard into the comb to get the top of the front level with the top of the back sight. Yet, the crosshairs are right there when I shoulder it with the #3 rings. Love those Rugers!

I have a M8 4x33 here. It is the later M8 which is shorter than the older M8 like yours. That older M8 is a lot more flexible for mounting on long actions.

Nice rifle BTW. :)

I like that rear sight, but I think you should cut 2" off the barrel. ;)
I actually wish they made them with a 25 or 26" bbl.

Definitely a favorite, one of the very few small bores I actually like. :p

Because of its efficiency with powder, high b.c.'s of 7mm bullets, and in standard form it has a 1:220 mm or 1:8.66" twist, which my Zastava carbine has, so it can properly stabilize any 175gr bullet. My hunting load is a 175gr SBT Sierra GameKing bullet at 2500 fps MV using Reloder22 (20" barrel), near maximum as listed in the Woodleigh loading manual, with very good accuracy.

Note the big discrepancy in the Hornady manuals between the 3rd and 7th editions, 2300 vs. 2500 fps.

Probably the most "weakened" load in the most recent manuals is for the 7X57 Mauser... I load the Mauser from old manuals.

In Speer Reloading Manual No.12 they mention reduced pressure loads required for model 93 and 95 Mausers. Maybe the 7th edition of the Hornady manual takes this into consideration? With a 24" barrel No.1 rifle, muzzle speeds near 2700 fps with 175gr bullets should be easily achievable.
