Glock 17, PPX, H&K SFP9 or FNH FNS 9???

Will not repeat all the good advice above. Will just say that I've only fired the Glock 17 and FNS 9, among the choices. Both are utterly reliable, but because I learned on the 1911 platform, the FNS is the natural choice because it has the same grip angle as the 1911. FNS is also ambidextrous and a better ergonomic fit for my hand.

The Glock grip angle is a bit extreme and I have to pretty much bend my wrist to its fully locked position, to align the sights. Like an Olympic match target pistol. Not comfortable for me, but if you get used to the grip, it will be good for quick sight alignment and for point shooting. In my case, since like shooting different guns, mostly revolvers and 1911s and others with similar grip angles, the Glock is the odd gun and very seldom makes it to the range.

If you intend to shoot only Glocks, then they are a great choice.

I own a CZ shadow SP01 and a Glock 17. Both great guns, but if I only had to choose one for target or competition it would be the CZ. Yes it's heavy but feels so good and shoots even better. The SP01 is the best gun for the money hands down.

I have a Glock 17 and an FNS 9L. Both are great guns. Approx 1,500 rounds through the Glock and 1,700 through the FNS.
I tend to gravitate to the FNS and like it a little more. I've had the Glock about a year longer than the FNS.

The Glock has better aftermarket support/parts etc by far. Glock mags are around $55.
FNS holsters and mags are available if you look around a bit. FNS mags are around $80-$85. Don't know about other parts.
The FNS is much cheaper so if you're getting one gun (for now) you can shoot a lot more ammo with the savings vs a Glock.

Just to complicate things; I recently shot a Sig P320. Very nice gun and worth a serious look. A little more expensive than an FNS but quite a bit cheaper than a Glock.
There is an aftermarket trigger available even though the trigger is already pretty nice. Winning the US army trials should make it a pretty popular pistol with good aftermarket support.

Still surprised to see the new Ruger American Pistol not in mention here.

It is brand new state of the art technology, recoil reducing, extreme testing, +P+ factory rated, excellent customer service, supremely comfortable to shoot, excellent stock Novak sights, better trigger than any stock Glock (metal trigger as well..), metal magazines, 3 changeable grip strap sizes.., excellent respected online reviews...just not mentioned cause it's brand new....but please - do consider it.

About $720 Brand New in Canadian Gun Shops.

I have one in .45ACP (w/ Crimson Trace Laser attached above) along with two newish Glocks.

Oh and by the way - they come from factory ready (no mods required) for ambidextrous shooters...

Nuff said. Try one for yourself....money well invested.

I have both the CZ Shadow sp-01 and the FNS-9L, both are shooters, I'd give the edge to the Shadow in accuracy, but not by much... the FN is lighter which I like and way more comfortable for me at least than my Glock

Hold and shoot an RAP (Ruger American) and report back....honestly.....nuff of the overpriced CZ BS....

Personally I haven't had a chance to see the "American" in person yet, but I haven' been impressed by Ruger semis in the past, they always seemed to be a notch or few below the competition.

From the choices OP presented, I'd pick the Glock 17 (gen4 of course) - proven solid design that does what it was designed to to very well and the standard of what others alike are trying to measure up to.

Sure....but try one now...the new one...not the SR series...the RAP are an industry leader and well worth the try.....as honest a Glock owner as I can share...

I found the Ruger American to be a pretty heavy, and also balanced really awkwardly. Very top heavy, its a bit unwieldy in my opinion.
Trigger reset is way too loooong for me.

Exactly what industry does the RAP lead? lol.

Both the Ruger SR9 and budget sibling 9E are better handguns in my opinion.

P.S. I don't find the original shadow overpriced. It's a fine handgun and has proven itself in competition.

I love my FNS but I'm considering selling it because of the price of magazines. They're like $50 each so by the time you buy 4 or 5 any price advantage the FNS has is gone. They are great guns though. Consider an XD/XDM as well

I have experience with all of the firearms listed and right off the bat I would eliminate the FNS and the PPX. PPX is a weird firearm, and really blocky. The way the hammer works is weird as well and results in every trigger pull basically being double action. The FNS has a terrible trigger and mags do not drop free from them. Glocks grow on you, and the SFP9 has a nice grip. Glocks last a lot longer than the HK pistols, however you will never put enough rounds through it to find that out. I think out of all of those I would go play with a glock and HK and decide which one I prefer.

My FNS, with 3000 rounds through it has broken the trigger in very nicely, I wouldn't consider it a " horrible " trigger by any stretch of imagination, and now that it's worn in, it's actually very nice,,, and my mags will literally fly out of the magwell when I release them, exactly the same as my wife's FNS does, I have no idea what was wrong with yours but I have NEVER heard of an FNS that mags wouldn't drop from

I'd have to concur on this one. Trigger is good and the mags eject with authority. I would probably prefer a Glock trigger but not by a large margin.

The real negative for the FNS is expensive mags and lack of aftermarket support.

My FNS has the same trigger pull weight as my Glock and a little bit nicer reset than the Glock.
I've never had a problem with the FNS mags ejecting. The mags are expensive but they are high quality. Around $85 compared to $55 for Glock mags.

Yikes. $45 (FNS) and $20 (Glock) dollars here for mags. And they are regular capacity, downside is that they are heavy when I concealed carry my FNS9 :)

A new G17 or SFP9 retails for $1000-$1100? CZ Shadow one new are under $900 now :p

$895 for the HK SFP-9.
The only problem with the HK are the $80.00 mags.
It works out well for me since I own a P30-L which takes the same mags.

I have not shot the PPX but as you guessed my first choice is the HK.
The trigger is amazing for a factory trigger.

For an all steel pistol you can't go wrong with CZ or a 1911 which is always my first choice.
