I'm shocked, Bob, that you haven't been motivated to read John Lott's work.
It wouldn't kill you.

Who counts rounds in a gun fight? Nobody. The idea behind the rule is to ad a bit of realism to the sport. Wilson didn't want to encourage folks counting rounds while shooting IDPA. That is the genesis of the rule. I think you will agree once you understand the idea behind the rule you begin to see how it fits the sport. Peace.

You are well behind the curve on IDPA rules. There is no FTDR penalty any more and round dumping if you think that was what I was alluding to was made legal in the 2015 RB version. Ir always was a very difficult call prior to the rule change. The only restriction introduced in the 2017 RB is you must be shooting at a target when you round dump. No more throwing one in the berm and calling it good. This will be common when appropriate because you can reload and re-engage on the move now while in the open. These and a few others will be covered off in my next Safety Officer Class scheduled for May/June.I see the advantage of retaining a mag down some rds after a tactical reload, but not an empty mag. In IDPA, deliberately shooting a gun to lock back would likely result in a FTDR (failure to do right) penalty - if the SO could prove it.
Tactically loading your mags is a no-no as all mags must contain the same number of rds and you must top load to your max capacity to begin.
Thanks for the IDPA update. Obviously, we are not being kept informed of the recent changes. We have a New Shooter Orientation scheduled for this month and I presume that these changes will be brought to the attention of all.
Cameron IDPA is a game not training. Do you teach your students to retain their mags containing rounds or just toss them?
If you want to play a game with a different rule fill your boots. You, nor I, are going to change the IDPA rule. Running your gun dry to do a faster reload as opposed to having retain the partially loaded mag is a great and winning strategy for playing the game of IDPA. Not sure what strategy is involved for those playing "Operator" in the civilian context. Armed forces is a different matter entirely.
You say John Lott claims 2 Million defensive uses of forearms in the US. Well if that is true than think about this. Based upon having 1/10th of the population Canada would have 200,000 incidents of gun usage IF our societies had the same mindset. Well I doubt there was 2,000 armed incidents in Canada last year let alone 200,000. I can appreciate the Self Defense Industry in the US and to a lessor extent in Canada floats stats around to convince the world or some portion of it is about to go to hell in a hand bucket. Subscribe to it if you wish, if you are involved in civilian self defense training here in Canada. Fly at it. I just don't believe this country would be a safer place if we all were carting guns around to protect ourselves.
There is no evidence it helps much in the US. Folks will claim crime rates fell when CCW was expanded throughout most of the lower 48. The argument and claims to that effect dissipate rather quickly when you see the same decline in crime rates north of the 48 where there is no CCW. You can look it up the declining crime rates in both countries are virtually identical. The aging of the Baby Boomers in both countries caused the decline to rate pre- 1960 rates. The jump in crime through the 60's ,70's and 80's was caused by the boomers. So too the decline.

Your point ..... ?
It's just funny that a guy that lives in such a dangerous place is constantly talking about the dangers of America and how he doesn't need concealed carry because Canada is more "evolved".
the point of this thread in canada for those who keep replying to this thread is POINTLESS...
myself included in this pointlessness....but just had to....
How's peaceful Terrace? Any murders yet? How many rapes and assaults so far this year?
What is going to happen to all those guns that were stolen when someone rammed their truck through the wall of the local gun store? I bet they'll turn up at some crime scenes soon.
Most years Terrace has a murder rate of almost 10 per 100k. That is pretty dangerous, almost Chicago dangerous.... More than double the national average in America...
Yes it is the murder capital of Canada. I think we have had two in the 12 years I have lived here. As to the hunting rifles that were stolen I am sure next fall there will be a substantial number of moose murdered. See one murder last year if memory serves me right that would be about the same as what Chicago experiences every 12 hours or so. Zero on the rapes, and not sure how many fights they have had over in the trailer court. I suspect one every Friday night. You can do the math. Scary place this. I think I need to arm myself, and my wife and buy a bullet proof vest for my Miniature Schnauzer.
cadgo if you are serious you are a moron and a not to well informed moron at that. Yes up here in Canada we average around 550 murders per year. about 150 where firearms were used. The US in 2014 only had 14,249. That would be about 25 times more in number.
