Please tell me the Colt Canada fascination??

These certainly aren't for everyone, but the price does reflect the rarity. He only had a small number of them and these have never been released to the civilian market. C8 barrels have a unique profile that isn't available from any other manufacturer, not even CC it would seem. I've often toyed with buying a M4 barrel and having it reprofiled to replicate a C8 but that would cost me more than buying one of these complete uppers. To a collector the price isn't bad for something we may never see available again. I certainly hope they get more in as I'm currently stateside and won't be back for another week.

These aren't from Afghanistan. Canada gave the Afghans 7000 C7 rifles and it's my understanding that they were all destroyed when the ANA settled on the M16A2 as standard.

Why do people pay $1400 for a No4 MKII (that has been shot) when you used to be able to get them for about $325.00 (when they first came into the country from CIA)? People will pay what they want to have what they want. If the price for the C8 uppers were to high Ryan would not have 2 left. It is going to be more interesting to see what price they start showing up on the EE, lol

All the Moaning about $699 on a used upper...go ahead buy a used Norinco, you'll save a bit of cash. I find this hilarious, it's a C8 upper, I'm amazed they are here at all. People collect all kinds of stuff, and rarity dictates price. Could there be more in the future? You bet, but I'd put money on it that they will be few and far between, esp. with all the import and export regulations that exist now. As for Canadian Police Agencies, they stopped selling off their firearms probably in the early 80's at best.

What would import export regulations have to do with a Canadian made product?

used uppers built by a quality manufacturer go on the ee for about the same price if not more
civilians tend to shoot their guns ohhh maybe 5 to 10 times more than LE
so actually you mght be getting an upper that was carried/handled more but shot a whole lot less

I did ask this question to a Canadian police armour. Even thought the product is Made in Canada they still have to fill out and summit export documents to the US State Dept. and it has to be approve. The US State Dept. also puts on end user restrictions(i.e. can't be sold to civilians). He said they usually take a week to get back and then they can order the parts from Colt Canada. This is when they just bought C8. The reason for the export license is Colt still owns the TDP and it's consider US military technology.

These are not LE guns........they are surplus from DND. Some of these could have had thousands of rounds of full auto fire. Its really a gamble on weather or not you are getting a low round count gun or a very high mileage gun. Ive personally seen some of these guns and some are clean while others are worn to sh!t

This appears to be a unique situation. How many LE organizations sell firearms or parts to the public? I could be mistaken, but it doesn't appear to happen all that often these days. That said, IF anything like this is available in the future where is it going to come from, not DND that is pretty much a certainty, and since most LEO's don't sell their surplus to the public anymore, any future source is most likely going to be crossing a border. Make sense now?

As for them being shot out DND surplus, I don't claim to know the condition of these when they left the care of DND, but I'd say it's a stretch to say the Department Of National Defence passed on shot out rifles to be used by a Canadian Police Department.

In the end it's all speculation, I'm sure we'll hear from the guys who bought them.

Layoffs don't automatically mean closure.

Absolutely, layoffs in manufacturing could mean anything, look at the Auto sector, those guys get laidoff for a few weeks to a few months every few years at best.

These aren't really supposed to be sold at all, but I guess the legal dodge is parts are alright as long as the receivers are destroyed.

Just got mine, beat up but structurally sound for sure. Bolt is in great shape. CH is worn but functions perfectly. Bore is excellent and very shiny. Handguards are worn, and have a decent chunk into the front left (0.50" across, not punctured through though).

Overall I'm pleased, it's a cool piece of Canadiana for the collection. Put it on a CC enhanced ambi lower and it's right at home next to the No1 Mk4 Long Branch. Props to SFRC for getting these in.

Thanks for this update. I'm foolishly considering pulling the trigger on one, but was curious how they'd turn out.

I put up a few quick photos here:
