Why do I all of sudden want a glock???

Agreed, however there's no way I'm bringing nice target pistols into a muddy field, putting them in a holster, beating the snot out of them on a course, shooting them thousands of rounds with minimal cleaning, or loaning them to friends new to shooting. Theres a time and place for a Walther GSP, Sig X5, or Match grade 1911 and a time and place for a service pistol. For the latter you'd be hard pressed to beat a G17.

To the Op, I hate my G17. I hate that it's so ugly and black, I hate that it's plastic, I hate that it involves no skill or craftsmanship to make or finish, I hate that everyone and their dog has one, I hate the weird ergo's specifically the hump at the bottom of the grip, and I truly hate the stock sights. But for me, the thing just points naturally, shoots well enough, and is utterly reliable so I love to hate my Glock. The only thing that is going to happen are new sights;the stock ones truly blow. My recommendation - buy a used one on the EE or find a Mil/LE friend willing to buy one for you at discounted pricing.

I love the utility of modern manufacturing practices. To me that is as much art as a hand made traditionally beautiful rifle. I also love the reliability, sounds like you do too.
 
And with little trigger polishing work, replacement of a barrel, sights, connector, DPM for recoil and you have a service pistol that shoots like a match grade 1911, or X5....without the weight and size.

I owned Sigs, CZs and 1911s, Glocks are freakishly simple. And they shoot better than most people can.

Out of the box, Glock trigger and sights suck big time. But those areas can be improved with a couple hundred bucks.
 
Of course not, but since CCW is no option I dont think I need a scape goat gun. I've hummed it over and it seems like buying a glock is just one of those things that will come about from boredom one day. Until then I think the sudden craving is kicked.
 
I have ownwd 3 Glocks and they have been awesome My wife loves her 17 which used to be mine and have also owned a 40 cal and a 45 cal Glock 21. The 21 is by far my fav. Not flippy at all and is accurate as the day is long. Never never I have ever had a jam and I shoot IPSC. Everyone chooses the shadow but I will take the Glock always. There are fellow Glock owners that I know that have never cleaned their guns and they still never jam
 
been shooting 1911 and 2011's. STi and SVI Infinity , awesome guns to look at and to shoot. But........

Out of the box you have to work them over,match your ammo length, keep em clean and lubed , more finicky then a race car sometimes. Would never use on in a carry or combat situation.

So the simplicity of a g17 is something I like,easy to use ,no external safeties to tinker with, load it with what ever you have and shoot and hit.
 
I had the same itch. I bout a G17 Gen 4 and don't regret it but it was $600.00 at the time. It would be the second pistol I'd unload if I had to. I'd be left with a 1911 when I was down to one. I don't have reliability issues with any of my pistols...
