Thanks for the feedback

Simple answer, do not buy a Hi-Point. In my opinion, the best "bang for your buck" guns would have to be the Canik TP9SA or the Girsan Regard. Just my two cents.

Do you own a small boat? The Hi Point doubles as an anchor....not true, I've seen better looking anchors.

Do what mfras suggested. Better options. There are many new or lightly used guns in the $500 range that will give you more satisfaction.

If you're talking about the JHP, handle and/or shoot one first, you may change your mind about buying one. A range novelty at best, IMO.
I have one and it shoots and functions just fine, but it's the absolute bare minimum one would want in a handgun.
For another hundred bucks you can get yourself a Norinco 1911 in 9mm or 45ACP. These babies have come a long way in the last ten years.
And after seeing one in person(the JHP), and it's not a turn off, Google it. They do have a fairly good reviews.
Takedown is not a simple operation. For starters, you need to punch out a rolled pin, and need three hands to put it back together.
Makes the Ruger MK I, II and III look rather simple.

Hi-points are known as the joke of the gun industry. Friends dont let friends buy hi-points or even taurus for that matter.

Just dont do it!

My first handgun was a high point JHP. Heavy, and really ugly. Despite that though it was accurate, and it never had any jams or FTF. Yes people will laugh at you at the range..they may even point at you as well, but these guns are not that bad. I doubt you are planning on going into war zone in the middle east, so for the range trips these handguns go bang just as well as a glock, sig, etc. Enjoy it if you buy it, tell the gun snobs at the range to piss off!

Thanks so far guys,

That's good to know so far. For something brand new being so cheap it throws you off but worth a look see. I'll look at a tokarov first

If you're looking at a tok, look for one converted to 9mm. 7.62x25 is a great round, but a little too snappy for a pistol newby, imho. Truth is, pistols take a lot more skill than Hollywood would have us believe, and your best bet would be something in .22 to learn the basics, then move up to whichever CF tickles your fancy.

Wise words^^^. Don't develop bad habits at the start of your shooting career. A flinch is easy to learn but darn hard to unlearn!

Haha. No love for Hi-Points here. Or much of anywhere it seems.
The one thing that does though, many years from now, is put it into a category of 'rare and sought after'. Because not a lot of people have them but people who do love their reliability.
It will always be a niche market for them though.
