PM II on a Tikka T3x CTR - is this a crazy idea?

PRS looks like a lot of fun. Long distance shooting is like watching golf.

So true! I had to sit out a match last spring and while it was great just being out with the guys and helping spot and score, it's a lot more fun when you're the one pulling the trigger.

Sorry to the OP about the hijack. If you can put any high quality optic on your rifle, go for it, S&B or otherwise.

We did sidetrack somewhat thought the 5-25 discussion was directly related to OP's stating:
Schmidt & Bender PMII sitting on a Tikka CTR is the height of lunacy on my part. I'm looking at 5—25x56 or 3—20x50 versions of the PMII

The OP specifically mentioned 5-25, that is why I bought up the topic. I agree with J996 that "The 5-25X56 is old news. Everyone lingers on that old model and its tunneling." . Just from my yesterday discussions at the range the fact is a lot of folks are still looking at the 5-25 as the must have perfection. Last I played with a PMII I too use only the top end mag, did not crank it down to 5x. No need to, it is an S&B, if 25x is perfect, 5x must be. Surprise to hear it tunnels at 5x so though it would be informative for anyone thinking of getting one to know.

The advice to anyone intending on purchasing the 5-25x to know the issues that there are better new models, J996 showed several. Notice the comments about weight got everyone thinking.

Interestingly in the one post with my negative comments about IOR, Zeiss, S&B and Nightforce no one came to the defense of these other companies.

I own 7 S&B scopes, my latest one being a PMll 3X20X50 shorth, not necessairely my favorite, it's hard to push away the PMll 5X25X56 FFP... JP.

That statement does not make any sense...... Clarity =/= magnification.

Actually it makes total sense.
Maybe you've never had to use a Bushnell or Leupold but when you go from a Leupold mk 4 on 10x to a S&B on 10 x there is a huge difference. While you are not actually gaining any magnification, the far better clarity allows you to resolve the picture/target much easier, thus higher magnification is often not required. Mebiuspowers statement is correct.

Omer has the for K624i for $3679, gonna look into these. Does S&B have anything 25x in that price range (recall Wolverine had the 5-25x several yrs ago in low $3k in that big sale).
Wonder what Khales has in 35x.

Yes they do, $3380, not a sale price, regular price. Actually what the OP went for. https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/P...-Bender-5-25x56-PM-II-LP-P4LF-1cm-ccw-DT---ST
I have tried to keep out of this thread but.........
Easy to find the facts, just go to the Wolverine Supplies website and search Schmidt and Bender under the optic section

I must be blind cause last I checked a month ago??? Wolverine didn't have stock on any 5-25x for less than $4k.
Did you get new stock recently?

EE prices recently are low $3k.

Stock constantly cycles around but there are lots of models of the 5-25 that run well under $4k
Way better pricing than converting from US websites that sell S&B

Guess so, only owned zeiss, S&B, and tangent theta.

And Guy at Wolverine is simply fantastic to deal with I must say, the only downside is the neighbours think it's odd that I'm camped beside the community mailbox and constantly refreshing the Canada Post status page ;-) can't wait to get my paws on this beauty!

Once you bought your first S&B, you wont be looking for anything else, these are not only top, they are addictive and never a rifle will outshoot your optic, you buy them for life... JP.
Have you had a chance to play with a Tangent Theta yet?

I have tried an S&B PMII and a Tangent Theta on the same day.
I didn't do a side by side comparison but I may give the edge to Tangent Theta for clarity but the difference is slight.
I will say that the features on the Tangent Theta such as tool-less zero, and the feel of the elevation and windage knobs are superior to the S&B but are they worth 1K more?
Also there are more chances that S&B will be around in 5, 10, or 20 years than Tangent Theta.

There is more of a chance that I will be purchasing an S&B than a Tangent Theta due to the price difference and the potential for repair in the future.

Where did you get the TT is $1k more than S&B?

Wolverine has the S&B for $3380, Razor II are $3500+, TT ~$6.2k so a TT for $1k more than S&B is scam alert.

Shock to find S&B is cheapest of the bunch for basic 5-25x scope.
