Lyman Borecam Digital Borescope With Monitor

Just to bump this, only thread on it I could find. How everyone liking theirs? I'm thinking of getting one.

really like mine
the image size is small but it shows lots of detail.
with it I found out the bore of a new Weatherby is horrible.
it magnifies 4 times I think

Good timing on this; just a couple of days ago I finally got around to trying out the one that came down the chimney at Christmas.

Pros:
- decent image for the purpose; bear in mind that we're not filming Lawrence of Arabia here (unless your barrel is really sandy, I suppose...)
- good price point compared to other options
- can store images to sd card
- laser-etched distance markings on the rod help to determine where extra attention may need to be paid during the next cleaning session.

Cons:
- can only store still images, not videos
- would be much easier to use if there was a swivel connector between the end of the rod and the cable that leads to the display. As it is, the cable tends to resist my turning the rod, making it easy to lose which land or groove you're tracking along if you slip.

Found out that one of my rifles really needed some crud taken out of the chamber; aside from that the barrels seemed to be pretty clean.

Wasn't too happy to find a good-sized pit in the lands about 7" from the muzzle of a pretty much new (~250 rounds) 6mm Shilen "Select" barrel... Wish I had the scope when I first received the barrel - two years down the road makes it a bit difficult to question the distributor about it.

Question to those who have experience with bore-scopes: are noticeable pits a common occurrence in even high-end barrels (i.e. were my expectations of a barrel without any obvious flaws too high)? This pit looks like there was likely a void in the steel casting, as opposed to being tooled out - however, my knowledge of metallurgy and barrel-making is pretty much zero, so any info here would be appreciated.

A comment on the barrels themselves: the finish on the above Shilen was noticeably nicer than the other barrels I looked at with the scope (a Savage factory barrel and (I think) a Krieger) - almost no tool chatter in the grooves, and no lines going in odd directions - in contrast, the Savage factory one had a 1 1/2" section that looked like it had two different twist rates cut in it... not encouraging.

Cannot focus the camera????

Like a few mentioned if you cannot focus the camera to a crisp image you are losing a lot of detail....

For myself in the BR world not enough clarity to see what we want to see.

I will stick to my Hawkeye.

Thanks for this useful review. Help us a lot to make an idea of the product!

I ended up buying a couple USB endoscopes from ebay for about 20 bucks each
They take both images and video.

Not the greatest optics but certainly serviceable.

Tip... get the long cable version.

Define "long"?

I`m gonna get a cheapo USB version. Found one with supposedly 720P and a 5.5mm camera, was thinking of the 2M variant

2 m is not very long when you consider that 1 m will go down the barrel and that leaves only 1 m to go from the rifle to the computer. So the computer needs to be right there next to you which in my case is not always practical.
I originally ordered a 2m and learned my lesson... hence the comment above.

I mean... it will work, but you don't have much room to manuver.

Then I ordered a couple longer ones. One for me and one for a friend.

Get at least 3 M, but I got the 10M. Its not like I need it all, but the cost difference is negligible and you just twist tie what you don't need so it doesn't tangle.

Besides, you never know what else you might want to use it for.

At SHOT in Jan, I visited the Lyman booth.
The media rep told me that they are planning on releasing an improved version soon.
