I already did that and got a grand total of 3 people out of 471 reads saying they would love to take me out hunting BUT the only problem they said was that they hunt in remote areas. One said he'd take me to his cottage this fall for deer but first he had to repair his front deck so I could shoot from there. If anyone has to point fingers as to what it am saying here then you should look at how many are pointing back at yourself and ask "why don't I just ask around for someone for ME to take out there.

PS: I do belong (5 yrs) to a rod n gun club that is making changes to the club to accommodate me (first member in a wheelchair) and my needs which in turn may even attract more members as chair shooters.

Good on ya, I didn't mind your rant, keep in the sport and it looks like sooner or later you will get your wish. Cheers.

I think it's incumbent upon all of us to get out and make connections within the community. The old guy in the wheelchair might have a great spot to go for deer or the young kid whose father works away might know of an awesome fishing spot. The completely able-bodied and unencumbered person might not have a good spot to go shoot gophers that someone else can turn him on to.

If we all spent a little more time getting to know each other I think the experience would be more rewarding for all of us.

Good post

two of the most passionate hunters i know don't have the use of their legs. Neither slows down at all and both have found ways to hunt and shoot in spite of their physical limitation.

I have posted here twice asking that very same question. Out of 471 reviews of my posts only three people replied saying they only hunt in remote places the fourth said he was going to make some changes to the deck of his cabin so I could shoot from there. My own gun club is in the process of getting some changes done so I (the only member in a wheelchair) could enjoy all of the different shooting regimes. I shoot 12 gage, .270, .223, .22-250, 9MM, .22 as well as croxbow. The only problem I have hunting is I need someone to go with me to areas I can hunt to help with knocking on farmers doors for permission and game retrieval etc. I also have my permit to shoot from a motorized vehicle aka my van, you truck, four wheeler etc. I am not pointing fingers at anyone but stating this please just take a few minutes to think about asking around other hunters and their clubs to see if there are wheelchair bound hunters who would love to spend a day with you. You will never know just how rewarding it is to see that great big smile on their faces when they shoot some game! It will also make you personally feel better about yourself! Thank you reading my rant.

There are lots of people on CGN that look for the negative in every post. You can see them on this thread. Don't worry about it. I would take you out for spring bear if you were in BC, something easily achievable even in the mountainous area I live in, as many bears tend to congregate near old dirt roads as they green up first in spring. Best of luck to you

Ok... you need to take me on your BC bear hunt... I promise you will feel better about yourself.

There is an old saying "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar." I understand you probably feel frustrated but changing to a little more light hearted approach may help your cause.

Spank and many other posters have given you some respectful good advice. So your in a wheel chair and it sucks big time. Get the big chip off your shoulder pal as it doesn't match your wheel chair and the weight of it is holding you back. You also posted in another thread how your a third class citizen because the MNR won't let you cull deer with the natives because your in a wheel chair. There not treating you any different than the rest of us non natives. Quit feeling sorry for yourself pal as it is not going to get you anywhere. Your body has probably healed but your mind and mental health need some more work, which I strongly encourage you to do. I truly wish you all the best in dealing with your disability and pursuing your hunting a shooting hobby.
And just for your own information. Several years back I helped carry one of my best friends out of the bush from a tree stand accident. His back was broken in 3 places. He is in a wheel chair now. He loved, and lived to hunt and fish and had just retired. If you would care to speak with him PM me and I would be pleased to put you in contact with him if you think it may help you.

I will take you the Saskatchewan way, however it is a bit of a challenge.

What we need:

1 - 4x4 Pick up - I have
2 - Cases Bohemian beer(24 beer if you aren't from Sask) , this is for sunup until noon.
1 - Package of gravol(You may get sea sick in the bed of my truck, brake, gas, brake, gas type of driving when hunting) :puke:
1 - Large bore heavy hitting rifle , scope if you like, this will move you around the back of the truck a bit(more gravol may be needed)
1 - Bucket of KFC , drumsticks only, easier to hold while driving AND/OR shooting
2 - travel mugs
1 - 66 oz of Wisers(afternoon hunt)
1 - 2L Coke from the night before, opened and already flat

If we get along and I like you I will position you sideways so you roll only when I'm cornering.

If this works out we go again, down south.Ever shoot a speed goat with a 12 gauge out the window of a moving Chevy HD while smoking a 1/8 oz joint out of the corner of your mouth? :onCrack::50cal:

Oh, remember to bring you colored hat and upper body clothing as I wont supply this and your tags.

:)

Been watching this from afar while cooped up in a hotel room in New York City.....

First off, it goes without saying OP, that being wheelchair bound sucks..... especially for the outdoorsman.... I get that.....

It also goes without saying that all of us able bodied hunters and shooters that wish to grow the sport should be looking for, and enjoying, opportunities to introduce new shooters (or continuing the pastime for all hunters and shooters), wherever possible... also goes without saying that every shooter or hunter regardless of ability should be trying as well....

It also goes without saying that I, or anyone else in this thread, owe you nothing.... your "request" smacks of expectations and lots of us have full plates.....

There are quite a few CGN folk that can speak to my hospitality..... newbies that tried a certain hunt on my personal land as well as guys I just felt it would be nice to meet that needed some mentoring and guys that even offered something in return..... ie, I will come hunt X there, only for them to invite me to their land or camp and offer me friendly opportunity.... have made some great friends here...

So, here is my challenge to you OP..... I can put you on a first class waterfowl hunt, you would have to pay your blind fee, get yourself down here and come equipped with gun, license and ammo..... I would provide lodging, food and even help you overcome your disability within reason (I am not a PSW, and have no desire to be one)....

I rarely ask for anything in exchange for this, but I am going to ask you for something....

I would trade this hunt in exchange for the chip on your shoulder, in exchange for expectations and in exchange for your sense of entitlement.... there are those of us that are willing to help, but we shouldn't have to seek out those that need help.

Where I come from, a man has pride.... being in a wheelchair, blind, or whatever does not take that away.... you do what you can....life deals lots of us bad hands, and nobody lives without adversity of some kind..... it's what we do to overcome it that makes the differenice in our personal lives...

Instead of approaching this from a point of view that I have an onus to help you, how about approaching it from the direction that you may be lacking in some capacity, but you want to hunt with a guy like me because "X"....

So, let me put the challenge back on you Op.....

If you are willing to get yourself to my place, and have a bit of money to spend, I can get you in front of some birds.....

But I can tell you straight out..... a simple, "hey, I am wheelchair bound dude that wants to hunt", followed by something like "I am willing and I pay my share and can cook like a mofo", or similar would go a long way as opposed to "I am in a wheelchair, the onus to help me is on you", would go much further.....

If you are looking for black bears I am sure you could get several offers from a few people on here. There is definitely no shortage of them around here.

Nah... I was jesting... I have bruiser bears in my backyard.

Thought so but one never knows ...... LoL

BTW, Along both sides of the Fraser here in the Central Interior we have a high percentage of colour-phase bears. Bright cinnamon, while not common, are seen on a regular basis. Once in a great while a true blonde black bear is shot.

I would love to take a blond or light cinnamon bear some day... between myself and clients, close to 300 Ontario bears taken and only half a dozen weren't jet black and those were a dark chocolate. We did have many with good white blazes on their chests and one piebald, weird skin pigmentation deal.

Our deer herds are doing quite well just ask the natives when THEY are allowed to cull hundreds of them. I asked the MNR about letting handicapped hunters in on the culls and was abruptly told "the native populations in our country have the first right to any and all culls"! That statement really made me cringe because it literally states that because I am in a wheelchair I am now a third class citizen! Thanks a lot MNR!
So I ask you what happens now, are there any changes coming or they just going to go with the status quo??

Doesn't sound like a "third" class... sounds like the rest of us non-natives.
