Hello, all. A well-deserved shoutout to the organizers and instructors for the recent C.A.S.E. qualifier course that was put on @ CFGPA in Chilliwack, BC.

Not only did all the instructors keep it fun and entertaining for 7 hours in near freezing weather, but it was one of the most professional learning/course experiences I've had in years.

What specifically comes to mind is when I would do something incorrectly, there was no berating nor belittling; instead, I was given a clear, concise and friendly mini-instruction or shown tips'n'tricks to make my experience smoother and which led to a really enjoyable day.

Of all 19 people taking the course, everyone I spoke to at the end of the day had nothing but positive things to say about the course and all the instructors. We all felt we had learned so much....and look forward to getting back to the range for practice, then to our first DSS match!

Dynamic Shooting Sports BC? Is that a company name? Or is it that *new* shooting sport that took elements of IPSC & IDPA and simplified the rules to make it more appealing to people that just want to shoot in a less competitive environment?

First: thanks MisterPG! It was a pleasure having you as a participant, and we hope to see you at matches this year!

Second: no company here! DSSBCA is a volunteer organization promoting participation in shooting sports. We've developed a basic safety framework (the Competency and Safety Exam or CASE). This has allowed us to have commonality and cooperation between ranges that want to run their own tactical rifle, tactical shotgun and multigun events.

No one makes any money; in fact, the Association's by-laws prohibit anyone involved making money.

It is a fun atmosphere, and by-laws dictate (considerable) prizes are ONLY awarded based on a random draw, not based on placings. You can earn extra draw tickets by helping to set up!!

We're running another CASE at TMSA on March 25, and our first match is March 26. Note the Association's insurance requires you complete CASE prior to competing.

Really appreciate the shout out, MisterPG.

The instructors and the BOD of DSSABC have put in a lot of time and effort to come up with something we think the shooting community of BC would really appreciate and enjoy. And it's nice to know from feedback that we are going in the right direction.

We get as much satisfaction in seeing the joy and excitement of the participants run and gun their black rifles for the first time.

Another little perk for CASE qualified individuals who are new to the sport is that CFGPA will run a few Skills N Drillz sessions for those interested in practicing their new found skills as well as offer more tips on how to run their rifles and compete more efficiently.
We cater the sessions to what you want to learn.
Skills N Drillz will be held when the weather warms up when we get enough participants and interest.

Otherwise, as PE said, Mar. 25 at TMSA is the next CASE course.
If anyone in the Lower Mainland wants to try their black rifle in a dynamic way, come out and take the course. You can join the over 200 members of DSSABC and shoot TAC rifle in an awesomely fun environment!
 
I, too, was a participant in the recent CASE course at the Chilliwack Range. Really enjoyed it and learned a lot. Very well organized and relevant courses of fire. Instructors were informed, experienced and supportive of all levels of experience.
The course itself covered safe loading and unloading; shooting from prone, kneeling, urban prone; shooting while walking towards target; shooting while walking 90 degrees to target; shooting the V-Tac board; safe movement while moving uprange with rifle; unloading with and without retention of mags; transfer of firearm from dominant to non dominant side; and a whole bunch of other stuff. When all was said and done, all participants were successful in passing the course and can now shoot at the Tac match shoots at the Chilliwack range as well as TMSA, I believe.

Another bonus of completing the CASE course is that it allows you to shoot in their night shoot which I am really looking forward to.

The next CASE course is on Saturday, March 25 at TMSA. I would contact Phat Eagle for more info if interested.

One provisio on this: the night match is limited to 40 spots, and there is always SIGNIFICANT demand. Like everything DSSBCA, eligibility is based upon volunteer participation throughout the year. Preference is given to those who have helped with set-up and participated in matches, so plan to help out!!!!!!!!

Best way to get information and know about upcoming CASE opportunities is registering for the mail list. Visit www.dssmatch.com and fill out the form at the bottom of the page. We don't spam you or sell your addresses... Just send info about upcoming matches and courses!

Does the fact that I got Still Alive's good side count for anything? Oh, and Tyler was my CASE worker. That has to count for something . . . right?

That was a good day. Surprised at how much I had forgotten over the years, how much I had to re-learn, and how much I don't remember ever learning in the first place! I must be getting old ;-) Thanks to Still Alive, Phat Beagle, and the Georges. You guys all rock.

I'm looking forward to competing again, but honestly, after that day, even more looking forward to taking some more courses to expand my skill set.

Amen to that! More courses! Plus pistol and rifle/pistol to learn more about transitioning from one firearm to the other!
 
Awesome guys.

Any possibility of another CASE day being added to the schedule? One of my buddies (experienced shooter) needs to get it done and can't make the March 25th (group ski trip we planned last year). I also have two other buddies who are new to shooting who'd like to get in on our fun as well.

We're hoping to add an April or May CASE course. Depends on interest. Have your buddies PM their name and email address to Caje here on CGN.
 
Registration for March 25th CASE at TMSA is now open! Go to https://www.dssmatch.com/register-for-case to sign up. Cost is $10 for TMSA members and $30 for non-members (include a discounted day card to TMSA).

Completing CASE qualifies you to participate in all the DSSMatch.com matches this summer.

Type NONE in the Membership/CASE field when you're checking out, and please pay close attention to the instructions for the EMT to help the registrar keep it all straight!
