Hitler did a bit of touring early in the war. There's quite a few pictures of him visiting Vimy Ridge, overlooking the English Channel, visiting Poland etc. His horizons narrowed considerably as the war progressed, eventually ending up in a rat hole beneath Berlin.

Years ago I was talking with a range lizard who was originally from Denmark. He mentioned that he saw Hitler and Rommel on a train as it passed through Denmark and that Hitler was giving Rommel a blast of $hit. I asked him how he knew what Hitler was saying and he replied that he could lip read German.;)

Interestingly enough the German airship Hindenburg enjoyed traveling as well. It visited Nova Scotia in 1936 flying low over Halifax, Chester, Shelburne (both ship building communities) and especially low over Hazel Hill. Hazel Hill was the site that relayed all telegraph messages between North America and Europe.

Though looking back the true intentions are clear I believe the Hindenburg was here under the pretense of marketing the Olympic games which Germany hosted that year and had the Olympic Rings painted on one side of the airship during that time.

When things were looking good. Not so much when the #### hit the fan. :d The Hindenburg was the first regularly scheduled air liner between Europe and North america. Accident was the equivalent of the Concorde crash.

Grizz

Looks like in front of this half wall approximately where the red box has been overlayed

I have had this conversation more than once, this seems to be the right spot^^^^^

I have a few before and after pics of the same spot, unfortunately Im in Florida right now and do not have access to my information.

Bob, if you will be traveling to the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium, lookup pics of Hitler there.

Easy spot to find.

I spent many hours with my deceased Military buddy doing the same all over France, Belgium and Germany.

He loved the before and after pics.

Your avatar shows that you are in St. Pete FL. Have you visited Ft Desoto Park, the former coast artillery site? When I was stationed in Tampa I used to take the family there for picnics. I was down there a year ago tripping down memory lane and went back there for another look. It's worth a visit.

In an ironic twist there were French occupation troops in Berlin longer than there were German occupation troops in Paris. One of the main thoroughfares in Berlin is Unter den Linden (Under the Linden Trees) which was named after the Linden trees. The Lindens were pretty much gone when the allied troops moved in.

There are currently 500 German troops of the Franco-German Brigade stationed in France and 500 French troops stationed in Germany.

They should have a cardboard cutout of Hitler for you to stand behind with a hole for your face, and they take a b&w photo. I'd pay 100 francs for that.
This is another good one:

Yes I have been to Ft Desoto many times, it's actually just around the corner from me.

It was great until you had to pay to go into the park, put a dent into one of my cigar walking areas.

I have been coming to this area for over 35 years, bought a place when the CDN dollar was par.

D@m near $1.40 for a U.S. green back the other day!!!!!!

Where you stationed at MacDill?

I almost got arrested going into MacDill.

You used to be able to drive right on in,
we came up to the guard post,
he waived us on,
then all of a sudden all hell went down.

A airman ran up to the car pointing his M-16 in my face,
I said you waived us on,
sorry Sir,
I see your Canadians,
No Admittance now.

We turned around as they escorted us out the gate,
found out later in the evening that the Gulf War started and MacDill was the command center.

I know, I Know, I'm a thread HiJacker:p
