I'm not a fan of the Mossberg rear GRS. Like the sight picture, however after running Wilson Combat GRS for many years the Mossberg rear sight is not something that instills confidence with me.

Not digging the XS rear sight Mossberg uses on the BlackWater model, too exposed to damage ino.

The Vang Comp looks ok but I haven't nailed down if they offer it in the Mossberg hole pattern. Seems stupid to me if they don't. Also seems like it might not have enough elevation to match up with the Mossberg front sight.

What other options do you guys suggest ?

Those are the only two GRS I have experience with (DA one as well) I like them all just fine.
Maybe a GRS as a whole just aren't your bag(?) A simple solitary bead can be just as or more effective.

No no, I dig GRS's and make good use of them. I just think the Wilson's a much better made.

The ears on the Mossberg are fine, the "internals" I find kinda flimsy. Nothing more than that.

I have the Vangcomp on one of my 590s but it required drill and tapping. Was installed by Casey at TacOrd. I also have a Williams "Ace in the Hole" GRS with rail on my other. I like them both. The Williams sight just screws right on and it's considerably cheaper.

How tough are the Williams rear say compared to the Wilson ?

edit:
Just looked up the Williams ... look just as exposed as the XS.

It takes a pretty good beating during 3 gun and no issues. It's not as robust as the Vangcomp though, of course not as beefy either which some would consider a good thing. I can post a picture when I get home tomorrow night.

I bet a guy could still make hit's with a broken off rear sight and just a front sight blade....... if he was still in one piece after the fall off the cliff...... :)

anyone come across a picture of the AmeriGlo Mossberg 590a1 tritium set installed on a gun ? Can't seem to find one.

I like the low profile of this set.

Are those sites designed to mount to the barrel?

It's probably just the angle of the picture, if that front sight is meant to go on the factory base then the rear sight height looks correct for a receiver mount.

What about LPA options?
Or how about this one from Aimpro Tactical..... if your going to have a bulky ghost ring on the receiver might as well throw in a rail....

Thread update:

Ended up purchasing a compact XS winged ghost ring rear sight off the E&E from one of our fine CGN'ers.

BLOWS AWAY the stock Mossberg ghost ring IMO.

Smaller, fits perfectly and important to me..... the rear sight aperture & mechanism are much more robust.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
