I'm in the market for a budget-ish duck and occasional goose gun, so naturally the Turkish imports are catching my eye. I've had some experience with the Hatsan (hatstand:redface:) autoloaders, and for the most part they seemed OK, but that was 5-6 years ago, and benchmarks do shift.

What I'm basically after is a gun that won't break the bank or heart. I would prefer a 20 gauge autoloader (this side of thirty yards it'll work fine on ducks, skyblasting ain't my bag, baby), but a screaming deal on a 12 gauge pump won't put me out of sorts.

Those of you who have used and abused the current crop of Turkish guns- care to share your good and bad experiences?

Had a Turkish 'Kral' O/U years ago that was, well...less than a quality gun. My new Hatsan 8+1 pump with all the best 3 Gun competition features is, however, a great gun at a great price point. Both the Hatsan pump and semi have reviewed very well here on the forums.

I've had a CZ912 for several years, I really enjoy it. It's been used for geese, turkeys and several thousands of rounds for clays. It did finally suffer from a hammer breakage, which is a known issue with them but I've since fixed that up for good. I also have a new Hatsan escort, walnut stock and, while it's only been fired a handful of times, I'm very satisfied with it. Fit and finish are not quite as good as the CZ but function is perfect. It also uses Remchokes which are readily available locally which is nice. The CZ uses Mobile chokes.

I've had great success with the Asena semi auto 12 ga. I'm over 2600 rounds in 9 weeks. Half ounce to 2 oz loads it doesn't matter. The factory chokes are #### and it's sold as taking browning invector but Winchester and mossberg accu chokes don't fit. I didn't clean it when I got it an it went 1580 rounds before a very well used hull hung up on the shell on the lifter. A quick flick of the empty hull it came out and the next round cycled an I still managed to break to double just over the grass. I cleaned it at 1620 rounds I believe. Hasn't needed another cleaning yet
The wood stock got hit from an empty fired from a Beretta a400 an left an ugly mark on the stock but the gun function is unquestionably good

Arent the Weatherby semis made in Turkey? They seem to be held in high regard, and offer the prospect of warranty service if needed...

The weatherby's are made in turkey and have quite a good reputation.

Personally I have been using one of the Warrior semi autos that corwin brought in a while back as my clays gun. I don't put nearly as many rounds down range as some guys, but I've probably ran 500-600 through it so far, all without cleaning it, and it still cycles fine.

I haven't used the asena as much, less than 100 rounds, but it cycled low end loads right from the beginning with no break in required.

the Turkish guns can be decent for the money, but I would recommend asking about warranty and support before hand. Any time I've had issues with anything from corwin Martin has been awesome and fixed them right away, not to say the other guys aren't great, I just haven't personally dealt with them.

Winchester sxp for the goose pit, been good. Normally swing a browning and the sxp is half the fit and finish. The sxp has never let me down but has a lot of trigger creep and it seems to get a little worse with time - buuuut, it has never failed and thousands of rounds through it. My comparison pump is my browning medallion.

For an inexpensive auto loader check out mossbergs sa20. A Turkish made light semi. I am not a Mossberg guy, but I hear some good things...

In the end, if you have to go turkey don't buy online, so you can inspect the gun first. Make sure that choke goes in straight.

This guy makes a good point, but 600 rounds is nothing if you are a serious waterfowler and actually practice at the club for the hunt. Find a brand that has withstood 1000's of rounds.

I will second the Asena. I love mine. Functions great, and the price was amazing ($317+tax) Story is they were supposed to go to Russia for $500+, but the order got canceled due to all the Ukraine stuff and Martin got a killer deal on them so he passed the savings onto us. Normally these would have been nearly twice the price (which even then wouldn't have been a bad price, honestly)

brybenn, something must be wrong with your barrel or choke threads or something. I have a factory mossberg choke that came with my pump gun, as well as an aftermarket browning choke I bought for the pump gun and they both fit into my Asena no problem. The browning one is actually a few mm longer than the other ones, so it sticks out the tiniest bit (which I like)

I just checked their website, and they seem to be gone. Too bad, these were a really good deal.
