Hey, does anyone have experience with the S&W 986 revolver? I'm a wheel gun fan and the thought of shooting cheaper 9mm is appealing however the price of a S&W performance centre revolver is not! Wondering if it's worth the money? Thx

Had one for a while. Really depends on what your using if for. I was competing heavily in IPSC Revo back then with a 625, and picked up the 929 and 986 to try out.
Unfortunately, the 986 didn't really fit into the IPSC Revo rules, even now with the new 8 round minor rule.

But, the titanium cylinder was nice. Could run the trigger pretty quick because of the reduced weight and the cylinder notches didn't peen over as easy as steel.
Never did any trigger work, it really wasn't that bad, just backed out the mainspring screw 1&1/2 - 2 turns, loctite and ran deep seated Federal primers.
It was a L frame, which was nice (compared to the N frame 929). Much lighter and smaller than the 929 and had the perfect barrel length of 5".
It only ran with moon clips though, so you would need to invest in a good de-mooner and some quality moon clips (TK Customs)

Overall, very well made Revo, pricey, but the best 9mm Revo IMO on the market. Liked it much better than the 929.
If I was just plinking, I'd grab another one.

Thanks Tactical! I'm not planning on doing competition with it, just cheaper plinking. That's also good to know because I was considering the 929 for the 8 rounds but don't want the 6" barrel. Lighter and smaller is better and I'm glad to hear the trigger is smooth on the 986. I'll be ordering one today! Thx again!

No worries. Know you'll enjoy it.
If you get to the point where you want to crack it open and work on it, invest in Jerry Kuhnhausen S&W book: A Shop Manual.

As far as loaders go, look into BMT mooner. Pricey, but you can thank me later.

Enjoy.
