So I picked up a new 597 TVP, couldn't pass up on the price.
Will be ordering the Volquartson hammer /extractor kit, what else is there to do for reliability?

I polished the two guide rods on mine. The action is like silky smooth now. Other than the two mods you've already done I added an MCARBO spring kit. Doesn't do anything for reliability but makes for an amazing trigger pull.

I never polished my guide rods, but I did polish the bolt where the guide rods run. I also did a little polishing of the top of the mag. I don't think it did much, but it does run like a swiss watch.

I placed the guide rods into the chuck of my drill with a patch wrapped around the end to protect it. Then I covered a patch in polishing compound and spun away! They're smooth as glass now. The dual rod design supported at the front and back of the receiver is such a better design than the 10-22. The only down side is if you over tighten them and they "bow". That causes stoppages.

Rimfire Central has a list of things you can do to make the 597 a better gun. The rods come from the factory tighten too much. Mine had the springs, metal bushings and the hammer after market and third generation mags as well.

The standard charging handle on my 597 was a very sloppy fit. It's a poor design that only uses about half of the groove length in the bolt and was machined undersized from the factory. I machined a custom grade 303 stainless steel handle that fits into the entire length of the groove in the bolt and is a more precise fit. It eliminates the slop and is easier to use when wearing gloves. I have made a few of these for other members here. These pics and the video show the differences.

I have about 600 rds thru it now, no issues . Its an accurate for what I paid. The trigger is the only short fall, very stiff and dull feeling on reset.
Polished the guide rails , have the extractor and hammer kit on order.
Johnnyc14, you selling those bolt handles? That looks nice.

I installed a VQ extractor and polished the trigger, sear and hammer contact surfaces. Smoother the #### through a goose, problem is I had to unpolish a little when it started to go burst mode once in a while. I've never tested to be sure but pull feels like around 2 - 3 lbs.
