2017 Bootstrap Prairie M14 clinic

Very nice, cr5. Yep, bring 'em all! I'm pretty confident we can find a use for each one. You know, pry bar, post mallet, etc.;)

I think we'll be going May 26, 27, 28 but haven't received 100% commitment yet from each of our core group. I'll definitely post here when we do firm it up and then move this to Events & Gatherings.

Thanks, I'm also in the middle of putting together a 300win for long range which I'll also bring with if I can make it.
Any point in bringing a couple rimfires for gophers? Are we going to be on a certified range or private property/farm? Coyote shooting?

You can bring whatever you like except for restricted firearms. Keep in mind, however, we need to keep all you critters continually focused and plodding down the same path. As much as we are all 'gung ho' to compete with each other and show & tell, we can't allow this to turn into a kindergarten recess kind of scenario. And as much as we joke around and banter on these threads, when it gets down to it at the range, things tighten up considerably. Don't get me wrong, we'll all have the chance to display our earth-shattering skills and show off a bit, but this event will be structured and there is no tolerance for grandstanding of any sort.

Just a bit of a hint for now, once we get a portion of the guys tuned up / fixed up, we'll squad up and sight in. Following that, the first squad will shoot a course of fire that will get you out of any comfort zone you may have gotten used to and into more field-realistic situations, shooting at field-realistic target sizes at likewise distances. I'd like to ask that everyone use iron sights for this but I know there will be some that are dedicated scoped - because the COF will be laid out for practical use of your iron sights. We'll see what shows up and adjust from there.

cr5, ask yourself; what do you think the chances of survival are for gophers and coyotes within a 5 mile radius of a rifle range? :p ;)

I saw a 100" class mulie buck @ the clinic 2 yrs ago... walked across the range between the 100 & 200 targets... it was early morning and I was the only fella "camping out" that year.

I have never seen a gopher or a coyote at Roosters, but I only make it out there 2-3 times a year!

We are going to ecourage attendees to use irons - you know, how battle rifles were meant to be used. But as I said, we'll see what shows up.

As far as I'm concerned, iron sights for the multi-stage course that we'll have set up and if you want to try your hand at long range with your scoped '14, that can be done as a separate sideshow. We've always found that the long range stuff sucks up a lot of time and it leaves the guys without that interest standing around wishing they could shoot.

Bottom line, everybody will have their day and we'll make sure of that. Hence the 'grandstanding' clause in post 25 above.

Irons COF awesome! I have been panicking trying to find a scope mount and scope. That moves to the bottom of the list and maybe frees up some extra money for ammo.

There is certainly no NEED to have a scope for this event. Especially given their mortality rate associated with this type of rifle, we believe you should know how to use the irons anyway. Besides, it's much more gratifying when you make those consistent hits at distance w/o a scope anyway. Yes, spend money on ammo instead :ar15:

Sounds good, my M14 in the USGI stock is only wearing a scope till I find a load it likes then it's back to irons as it should be. The Blackfeather one can be for later if we get around to some long range playing.

You bet, Kyle. There will be plenty of help for any fixing or tuning you might need. In fact, this may prove to be a good test of our teaching skills - we can hook you up with the guys who we took through the process before you get there to see if THEY were actually paying attention!

Sounds like a fun weekend 358rooster. I only about 275km away to the southwest. But I won't be able to make it. It's seeding time, plus I've gotta some harvest to finish before that lol

Alright fellas, event date is confirmed for May 26th through May 28th, 2017. Please see announcement thread over in Events and Gatherings for details and sign up: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...ap-Prairie-M14-clinic?p=13686682#post13686682

Hoss, sorry to have done this to you but it always seems to work out best for us at this time of year. Maybe you should think about just turning last year's crop down instead of planting new stuff! What with all the trouble to haul it all away, dry it.... just to haul it all away again. ;)
