I`m getting a list of reloading gear together and am looking for opinions on the various offerings available.

So far I`ve narrowed it down to:

1) RCBS Chargemaster 1500

2) Hornady LNL Auto Charge Dispenser

3) Lyman Gen 5 digital powder system

4) Lyman Gen 6 digital powder system

I read a lot of good things about the RCBS, don't know much about the others but my LGS carries both of the Lymans (curious to hear what the difference is between the Gen 5 & 6)

i have the RCBS, get the straw mod done and the reprogramming ( lots of guides on the internet) the previous owner i bought it off of did a roll of paper inside the tube instead of a mcdonalds straw. every single throw it did since i bought it was dead on and accurate. i love it and it was definetly worth every dollar.

Yes, it seems the RCBS is universally liked. Did they go through a stage where they had defective keypads? A lot of the negative reviews I read are due to this it seems but perhaps thats in the past?

Just read a few reviews on the Hornady and it seems its to be avoided

Picked up a new Chargemaster from Brownells during their Black Friday sale last November, had it shipped to my employer's U.S. office and picked it up there. One of the few times I'd looked forward to traveling for meetings.
$260 USD price on sale, less $75 rebate from RCBS [got the cheque in February] so a net price of $185 USD, no taxes, free shipping.

Wish I'd bought one a lot sooner. Hasn't failed me yet, have dropped 100's of charges through it for rifle rounds (I don't used it for handgun loads). Dead nut accurate, memory to store favourite loads is great, easy to calibrate. Mine seems to be somewhat sensitive to fluorescent lighting as I was initially getting some variation, only by perhaps .1 grain. Switched to LED shoplight over my bench, turned off the closest flourescents, problem solved.

I too read the reports on failed keypads, when I spoke to a few very knowledgeable folks in the U.S. who own current models, and several of whom owned the previous editions, they told me that the keypad problem was resolved and the current product is pretty much problem free.

Was looking at the Chargemaster as Nachez has it for $260 usd which is quite cheap, not as cheap as OldNewGuy got it but way better than the $550+ they want for it up here

Overwhelmingly RCBS it seems

Anyone have any contact with either of the Lyman offerings? I`ve kinda written off the Hornady as the reviews were all over the place

Good information, particularly in regard to the fluorescent interference and confirming what I suspected in regard to the keyboard - thanks

Yeah, Nachez seems to have the best price on them

I live relatively close to the US so could I get them to ship it to a collection centre just over the border (heard one of my buddies talking about this) where I could drive down and pick it up?

If I do this how does import duty work? From memory someone on here mentioned you can bring back up to $800 worth with no duty - anyone know if this is accurate?

I`m trying to decide if its financially worth doing this instead of shipping it right to my door (duties vs fuel)

You need to stay there for 48 hours to be duty free of $800
24 hours is $200

Definitely looks the cheapest, shipping isn't to bad either looks around $35USD
To bad the conversion rate is such #### or else I definitely would be looking to get one.

Import duty should be just taxes since RCBS if made in the USA should fall under NAFTA

Interesting, by chance I`m planning a trip down there soon so I`ll tailor it accordingly - thanks

I have a Lyman Gen 6 and it works great. I think they all are pretty accurate. The main thing to ensure they have are the memory for auto refill. Saves pushing the charge button for each load. Just slide the tray back onto the scale and presto, it dispenses another load.

I have the hornady one. Only complaint is the f'n beeper and default speeds overthrow stick powders too often- but slow it down and it works fine. Scale is dead on to my RCBS 10-10. It is literally the best reloading "tool" I have bought myself... I definitely recommend an electronic charge thrower.
