Hey Everyone,

I thought it might be a good idea to start a fresh new thread for the IDF M14 parts kits, tho this thread will be dedicated to showing everyone's completed builds with a breakdown of parts if you want and if you have had the chance, why not throw in a range report too!!!

Ok So I will get this ball rolling. The parts kit I received had mostly H&R parts except for a bolt of which I was able to trade for. I chose not to use the stock and went with a birch GI stock so the break down goes as follows;

*** Forgot to mention and really shame on me but, Barrels installed with all the help, support, and expertise of the one the only Barney AKA Hungry AKA Tactical Teacher. Thank you again Sir!!!***

Barrel - H&R (1961)
Bolt - H&R
Op rod - H&R
Gas Tube - H&R
Trigger Housing - H&R
Safety - H&R
Hammer - H&R
Rear Sight Base - H&R
Elevation Drum - WCE
Windage Knob - DRC
Butt Plate Assy - KMT
Stock - Overton
Hand Guard - #6 (Structurlite Plastics Corporation)
Receiver - 2014 Springfield Armory Inc.
All other parts unmarked USGI

Today I finally got to go to the range for some real trigger time to sight in this rifle and the other H&R. It took a good number of rounds and I was having quite a difficult time as I had quite a wide spread of shots going to the left and right and was really starting to doubt myself and the rifle, that is before I realized my own buffoonery of not fully tightening down the front sight thusly causing it to walk left n right

Anyway I finished up the sighting in session with a 10 shot group at 100 yards using 7.62x51mm 149 Grain American Eagle/Lake City ammo, I am very happy with the results! If it wasnt for the super high shot that I pulled this would be a 3" group but in truth sits at 4". So perhaps with different ammo and me not rushing this group can tighten up.

Thanks for stopping in, feel free to add as much stuff as you want and ask any questions!!

That is one fine looking rifle. I wish I was at the point you are. I am ordering my LRB receiver next month from Wolverine and will have it completed this fall. At least I have an idea what she will look like now that I've seen yours. Jealously is setting in!!!

Looks really good! How did you mount the the selector switch? I have a 12/3 M14, and want to move over the parts to a M305 Reciver. I don't have the switch just the cover nub and would like it to look the same as it does now.

Thank you Sir! The selector switches are made by Fulton Armory and you can grab them online from brownells, These switches are fake and do Not include the connector rod and are just for looks so mount directly to the stock using a screw and a pin just make sure you have the receiver in before you start drilling holes . The real ones are attached to the receiver lug, so I am not totally sure if you can do the same thing.

This is how these are mounted

I had one of these. Two things to be aware of.

1. Push the switch in to rotate it! I broke mine within 30min of installing it (pot metal cr.p). Installation instructions did not explain this.

2. That switch is pretty intrusive on the charging handle and your right hand. I got tired to racking my finger knuckle (read bleed here) on it and replaced the switch with a cap screw.

Thanks, a picture really is worth a thousand words!
My converted auto has the selector switch lug cut off, I just have the parts and wondered how to make them work, I will take a look and see if I can make it mount.
I'm really looking forward to shooting it again.

I too found this out with my fake switch... on doing CQB drills with the M14, I was bouncing my right hand off that switch and it was annoying. Sold the stock anyways with the switch to another CGNutter who is not as wimpy as I am...

Cheers,

My first IDF build of 3.the 2nd one is A regular profile barrel which doesn't group as tight. The 3rd one is a HB also but not finished yet just waiting for a pull through reamer. It will sit in a IDF sniper stock when finished. This one is On a Boyds unfinished heavy match stock.it Still requires bedding. Happy with the way it shoots at this Point.

I agree it does stick out and is a funky shape but I have these switches on all 5 rifles, and so far I have been lucky and it has not been as issue for me. Plus I just love the way they look lol

This is what you really want.

That setup cost me a rifle and USGI op rod. Try and find one LOL. Lord knows how that rig found it's way into Canada.

It would be nice is Fulton also made a fake lockout button in addition to the fake FA switch. More M14's were issued with the lockout button than with the FA switch. More representative of issued M14's.

I had a box full, 2 dozen maybe? Sold off on the ee long ago now. Many 12-3 rifles have those connector rods still intact
