Is there any DESIGN difference in the hical mag adapter as opposed to the magwedge...Im not trying to start a cat fight between two businesses I am just curious...

Mostly visual differences, the Hical unit uses a slightly more aggressive feed angle for the magazine. Essentially everything else is the same, though the actual mag latch is slightly lower on the newer Hical adapter. The installation is the same on either one, though loaded rounds using the Hical adapter seem to feed higher into the chamber due to the aforementioned change in angle. I think they changed that because some rifles "required" feed ramps with the lower angle, since rounds would hit the bottom edge of the chamber on some. The fitting block on the front of either piece requires some persuasion to create somewhat of a hook instead of being flat, to engage the tab on the receiver without slipping, they could probably either machine the tabs to be thicker, or include a slight angle from the machine shop. I've seen people use shims to achieve the same result, though that only complicates things.

I'm actually installing a G9 as we speak and wondered about that fitting block. The whole unit does seem to have some side to side play due to the large gap where the fitting block engages the tab on the receiver. Do you mind elaborating a bit more on what you mentioned? Should I file the tab to have a bit of a lip/edge for better clamping ? Sorry if I'm high jacking this thread here...

That's a good one. The G9 does have the set screw which really solidifies everything with barely a snug but I'd like to get it solid without it first and then snug up the set screw.

We have made several improvements to our original design over the numerous production runs we have to keep up with the demand. We feel there is no way to make the latest version any better for either reliability or ease of installation...
We have designed the adapter to be removed & replaced with a duckbill or the original mag at will. They will remove instantly, like a duckbill mag. If you want a more permanent install, we simply bend the end of the fitting tab up a bit, it will be rock solid then, but you will have to loosen the screw for removal. You will need to shorten the fitting tab to get the optimum fit on your SKS first of course!

Also, once you have the fitting tab trimmed to fit, you can weld a little bead across the trimmed edge to tighten the engagement of the tab to the hook on the receiver.
Of course, file as required to perfection.

We made our version with a more aggressive angle than all other existing examples right from the start. This was necessary to allow for correct feeding of the rounds into the chamber.

We have not found it necessary to make any "improved versions" since that first run.

The bevel is all but gone on my receiver but short of test-cycling rounds I think everything lines up just peachy. I saw some photos of one that had the bevel milled away almost completely and that rifle is reported to have functioned perfectly so I hope I didn't botch mine!
