So I have a bag of cast bullets I had picked up for my Whelen. They are 230 gr, gas checked (I think I picked them up from Jet Bullets). Just wondering if anyone had any load recommendations for me.... or at least some starting points. Thanks in advance.

37-40 gr (70%-75% fill) (1800-2000fps) of either variety of 4198. 40 gr is still low pressure but velocity is apprx 2000fps getting to the limit for cast.

18gr Trailboss = 1400 fps. about 90% fill,, make sure you don't compress Trailboss.

15gr Unique = 1500 fps, careful of double charges.

I f you've been shooting jacketed bullets, give the barrel a good scrub with copper and lead cleaner before shooting cast, it will be much less prone to leading if you start with a clean bore.

what was your starting loads with trail boss? I just picked some up and 158gr pistol bullets I want to try

The trailboss load isn't close to max pressure, it's close to a full case and you never want to compress TB.
I didn't have a starting load. If it were me I would try 15 gr TB which is about 75% fill and should be ok, certainly won't be close to high pressure. Make sure it's got enough oomph that the bullet leaves the barrel. :)
