Considering a 9mm 1911...

For the slower bullseye style you say you prefer I'd opt for a full length over a Commander just for the long sight baseline length. Plus the longer and greater mass should allow you to hold it a little more steadily.

I got to shoot a Norc NP29 that a buddy has treated as a project gun. And DANG was it a super accurate shooting gun with a superb trigger. But it was a project gun so you are only using the Norc components as your starting point. He did have to put a fair amount of work and expense into it. But if you were to go the same way you could get all the things you want. And of course it does not NEED to start with a Norc. It can start with anything. In his case it was the very shallow Norinco markings and the reputation for good steel used in the slide and frame that made him chose the Norc. And when the barrel proved to shoot so well he also opted to use it instead of an after market.

But if you want to start with everything you want without doing any post purchase work then that's a different matter. And to prevent buying a gun then replacing all the internals and sights that you just paid for I'm thinking that asking Dlask to build what you want to an agreed on budget would be the wise way to go. You get just what you want and you don't have half a gun sitting in a drawer somewhere.

Other than that I'd likely be looking at an STI or perhaps a Dan Wesson around your price point.

I know they discontinued the STI Spartan so it would have to be an EE find. They are still offering the Trojan in 9mm but STI prices have gone crazy. What used to be a $1350 Trojan (less when on sale) is now $2168 on the Freedom Arms site.

You should look at the sig 1911 match champion. Its a great pistol with excellent fit and finish.
Most Sig 1911s are series 80s so if you're looking to use the gun for competition be aware that getting a really good trigger pull is going to more difficult than with a series 70 gun. It's not impossible but it's probably a gunsmith job rather than a DIY.

They are nice guns..... But not THAT nice. I'd be looking at things like Dan Wessons or the lower end Les Baer's if I were up in that price range. Unless those have taken off for the stratosphere due to our dollar as well.

I like springfield, always did, a norc might turn into a money pit, just buy a decent 1911 from the start. nice thing about 1911 lots of aftermarket. good luck

I've had a few STI Trojans over the years. A couple in 45, and a couple in 9mm including one long slide 6"er. The only one that remains is one in 9mm, and she's a keeper. I sometimes regret getting rid of the longslide. That thing shot like a dream.

Thanks,
Cal.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything in 9 mm, because the cartridge is so boring and underwhelming.

And you wonder why you're lonesome :)

OP, I love my Kimber Stainless II 9mm, but it's Novak. If you're looking for Bomar, you should take a good hard look at Dlask. Could wind up being an heirloom piece that you pass down through your family.

CRAFM has these:

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1911 RANGE OFFICER® OPERATOR 9MM
SKU V-6856
Price $1340.99
CALIBER:9mm

Holy moly! I was a STI fanboy when I was into 1911s, but this is crazy... Sentinel Premier 3,100?? That's semi-custom territory for a production gun...

I would recommend a Nighthawk but being a $1500 maximum I believe that you have left yourself only three options. The Springfield, Ruger, or STI. Of these three normally I would go with the Ruger, but I have never owned a Springfield and after watching this video( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_vkTLF-JNY )when it came out I have always wanted one. It's one of my favorite gun videos ever. I have seen and handled the pistol but have not fired it. Myself I would hold out for the Nighthawk.

I love your handle, both words seem so appropriate :)

Plus taxes, plus freight, plus the "upgrades" you know you'll put in it...
They never were cheap but at their current costs, wow, not a price point for the faint of heart...
Or those on a budget.

Loved my NP29's (2 of them) over the years. Then I bought an STI Spartan when prices were under $1K. That pistol was a shooter. Sold that baby to buy a SIG P320. I loved that SIG also, but missed my steel pistol(s) like a 1911/ BHP. :(

So I bought a Colt Competition 1911 in 9mm and I'm loving it so far. I always tell myself that this next rig will be my "never sell" gun, but you know how that goes....

Right out of the box, it's good to show up at the Nationals with. Actually, I might just do that this August in Connaught at NSCC by the DCRA.ca folks...

Cheers,

Barney

Cheers, guys. I ended up ordering the Springfield - got a good deal on the grey market, but it's going to be a month getting here

That IS custom territory - we ordered one, waited ~4 months (none in Canada, I suspect they made it for us) and d@mn near cracked four-grand on it, once all is said 'n done. :(

- But she LOVES it, and that's what counts. Happy wife, happy life! :)
