Hi folks, I am sure this has been discussed a million times before...and my CGN wandering has turned up nothing.( maybe my internet skills suck?) I am wondering about getting re-barreled k98 in .308. I know it has been done before, probably more then once since ww2, but any ideas where one can be had and how much one might be worth?
Any help would be great, and for those that are rolling their eyes..my bad, milsurps are kinda new ground for me.

Thanks again,

You'll see quite a few that the Israelis re-barrelled after WWII. They come up on the EE quite regularly. Prices vary, but usually between $400 and $600 seems about normal

P&S Arms has Chilean 98's in 7.62/ 308 for about $ 400 . They're in decent shape . A shooting bud of mine has one , nice rig and shoots quite well . Oops , bearhunter beat me to it .

I like the Israelis K98 conversation done by their armoury , the Bruno 's are nice .

My Israelis K98 Bruno converted to 308 . Apparently these were in the last phase of the delivery to Israel .

Lots of history in these rifles .

Norway had some converted to .30-06Springfield. They seem to be less common but if you come across one in good condition you might do as well to get it instead of a 7.62mmNATO, or while you wait for the latter. I think it's not hard to sell either at the right price.

I received a photo of one of these rifles and it certainly looks quite a bit better than the Isreali converted m98 I had.

The Chileans weren't quite so desperate to get their rifles into the hands of recruits and home defence units as the Israelis. Yes the Steyr is pre-WW1, but they are likely better quality rifles at the outset than the soup to nuts dragnet of 98Ks that the Israelis had to work with.

Norway also converted many k98s to 7.62x51. We just don't see them here
