I was thinking about making up some plinking loads for my dad with some spare 123gr steel core I pulled out of some 7.62x39.

I see a few recipes on hodgson's site, but not for the powders I have on hand. I've got 4064 and BL-C(2) on hand. Anyone ever put those two powders to work for 123-125 grain loads?

By mistake I bought some steel core Russian pulled bullets and they didn't shoot that well in my No.4 Enfields.

The only thing I could think of was the bullets didn't fill the bore when kicked in the seat of the pants when fired.

Was it just me or has anyone else had a problem with steel core bullets in a Enfield bore.

Have tried pulled bullets from 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r, the 123gr are horrible in all 3 of my enfield the 147 gr not horrible but no where near the accuracy of non boat tail, surprisingly in all my 303 the Berry 123gr plated shoot very well but I'm only pushing them at 1600fps with unique

Mex Match is perfect. It could also be used for the 303. I tried these bullets and they did not do very well.

Hmmm. Good to know. I've only got a couple dozen anyway. Maybe less. I used most of them for a 308.

I'll try some of the 123gr SST in the 303 too. Might be better that the steel core? Or maybe not.

On average (and I know there's a million variables, but) which soft point do you find to be the most accurate out of a 303? 150gr or 180gr? I'm not a 303 guy, in case you haven't guessed yet.

Both my L.E will shoot anything flat based well and salvaged steel core ok. Weight doesnt really seem to be an issue in both cast and jacketed once i exceed 27 gr of H4895. Steel core will shoot decent but loads have to be full house of varget or imr 4064.

I am just starting to test 123gr steel core FMJ myself.

I found they shot about 8" high at 100Y in my L-E.
