What is the next evolution of a precion rifle.

I'm tempted to get one of those chassis as much as I dislike chassis. The guys using them at the CORE match were killing the barricades... even that gawd awful prairie dog stage.

Haven't followed this thread for some time but something I've been dreaming of lately is kinda going along with the current theme of barricade stops, what I would like to see is a barricade stop that doubles as a palm swell for my HS3 :D Something that wraps around the sides of the chassis just infront of the mag well (think ala the AI AT built in palm swell but with teeth for a barricade); I want an AI but can't afford one so turning my HS3 into something similar, for me, is the next best thing lol.

I was talking to Scott about them earlier today.....some great things are in the works that will open a few doors, can't say much about it but it will be good, probably play around with one on the 28th when I am down there in Washington.

My spec.

Action
-3 lug 60deg lift
-switch barrel design, allowing the user to remove the barrel using one standard allen key and without having to disassemble the entire rifle.
-ability to go from .223 based calibers to .308 with the switch of a mag, bolt face and barrel.
-controlled feed, however allowing the user to single feed by utilizing an m16 style extractor opposed to a mauser claw style.
-mauser style manual ejector to eliminate case mouth damage caused by spring style ejectors jamming the empty case into the side of the action.
-AI footprint magazine (obviously)
-2 stage trigger for added safety, however with the ability to tune into a single stage for you single stage guys.
-A bolt stop that does not break off like all the remington clones.
-Built in MOA adjustment into the scope base with a quick release scope detachment

Stock
-aluminum framed chassis
-folding stock
-fully adjustable LOP and Cheek rise
-built in over the barrel bi pod so the gun hangs/self levels apposed to balancing the weight over a pivot
-offered in two configurations... A5 McMillan grip style or pistol grip style.

Whoa that's pretty much describing the Ruger PR. A crass thing to say, but a cool concept.

Some of what is dreamed of here is beginning to bend physics. Carbon wrapped barrels- light weight while sacrificing cooling. Side effect to complain about next is a short barrel life. Lighter rifle means means greater recoil impulse. Needs a bigger brake. Annoys neighbors, or yourself, being said neighbor. Titanium is a neat material, but very difficult to machine and is not very tough. Strong, yes. Tough, not so much. It also does not conduct heat well and has a coefficient of thermal expansion that is about half that of steel. Hence, given enough cycles, a steel barrel may cause a titanium action to fail.

If the goal is to perform better, time is the best investment. After that, what is the goal??

Interesting design, but I can't say I'm a fan. I really dislike features with singular/very specific functionality, as I believe it reduces the overall utility of the rifle. I want my rifle something that can be taken out in the bush for hunting, or can be dropped into a warzone and be effective. Multi-faceted. I really can't see taking a rifle with this chassis to anywhere but a range/match.

Call me old fashioned I guess.

It's just an accessory that can be removed by simply taking out a pin. Once the barricade stop is removed, the chassis is no less field worthy any other chassis.

Manners barricade systems in their new PRS stock. Has the attachement for shooting off pipes, like MPA.

This stuff will be standard features in a few years...

I heard over on SH that MPA is also working on a barricade stop for Keymod rails. I followed up with MPA and it is under development currently so that is also cool for those os us with AIs, etc.

Good on Manners for working this into their stocks. I still prefer the look of their stocks, and they're doing a good job keeping up with the functionality of chassis.

That Kevin Brittingham from "The Fix" is full ####. It's a Merkel KR1 action they conveniently "invented" 10 years later.

Haha, that part is very true. Over on SH someone point that out - still it is a pretty cool rifle.

Their weight claims are also a little off - they use a shorter and thinner profile barrel to get the weight down.

Well, see it's kinda "character" thing. First you say you made something new, yet you just copied other people work and twist the truth a little bit. Then you claim a weight, but you cheat a little bit too. And so on. The only question is how many times you have to catch a guy on twisting the truth until you don't trust them at all.

In my books once is enough )

PS
Funniest thing is that honestly it won't make any difference if they said honestly "we saw this in a Merkel product, we think its cool" and "well the real weight is whatever" and so on. People who dig that package would still buy and admire it. But no, you have to lie every single step along the way just to make it slightly more appealing at a first glance... Not the company and attitude I would like to support with my money. We already have big pharma and utilities to play that field.

Double check. When I was looking into accessories for the AT, it wasn't concrete that the Keymod stuff would work. I guess this was AI's tech first, and then the guy left and made Keymod...

I ended up buying AI accessories.
