What is the next evolution of a precion rifle.

To be honest seeing what the US is pushing lasers to do the next big leap is not going to be a kinetic energy weapon. A two man team can currently carry a unit (think an M2 MG) that can engage a man sized target out to 2km, 100% of the time. The fact that the beam rides the mirage right into the target surprised me.

Next evolution of precision rifles ....

Our government demanding by law that every home must have one and a min. of 1000 rounds (both given to each home by gov.). Also, a certain amount of (gov. paid for) training required by family members of a certain age per year .... ala what the Swiss do.

I dream in common sense.

Sounds like a paradise to me. If only I were better at banking.

I thought in 1998 UN banned us of laser weapons?

Edit: They banned blinding laser weapons, not directed energy...

What's next?

Higher power air rifle?
They're doing pretty impressive groups at 100M.

Results, 200-Yard Heavy Varmint

1. Wayne Campbell (USA) – 0.1866 MOA
2. Gene Bukys (USA) – 0.1973
3. Murray Hicks (Australia) 0.2062
4. Larry Costa (USA) – 0.2087
5. Tony Boyer (USA) – 0.2095

In the futur we'll see I hope a reduction of the cost of composite related products such as carbon fiber liner for barrels.

Improvements of the lining process such as the "new" 1 piece liner from Benchmark barrel.

I would like to see a 1 size(.384 to .585 bolt face) titanium quick detach barrel action. Simple bolt switch and mag adapter.

Chassis built for positional shooting and prone. Maximum 2.5 pounds.

Laser rifles please. No drop, no wind drift and enough power to zap a hole through a tree at 1000m.

Best of all, if such a thing were invented the Liberals would be so busy screaming about lasers burning people in half at 200 pulses per second, they would have a new fear to freak over and direct their efforts towards the new and horrifying......"Ray Guns!!"

-Bipods that are designed to work not only when used in prone, but also on barricades when folded up.

An attachment for barricades:

One of the reasons I still prefer the Harris over other bipods is because you can do a similar thing with it when its folded up:

The features that catch the legs when it's deployed can be used as a barricade stop.

It's a nice chassis. I'm really not a fan of chassis though... Wish I was because it's so easy to put a collapsible stock on many of them.

I hate pistol grips. They never fit right. Even with the largest commercial grip, I'm still pulling the trigger with my first knuckle unless I bend it in some awkward position. When I shot SR, I make a custom grip for the AR. Many people couldn't even reach the trigger with it. lol!

-Fore-ends or accessories to allow the barrel to be put through small openings and supported instead of having to push the bipod feed against the wall to avoid resting the barrel on the edge.

This is an accessory for an AR but it would serve the above purpose and allow the barrel to be put through small openings (that the fore end doesn't fit into) and suppored. A stop at the back would be helpful. I've thought of putting a dowel pin in the end of my fore end (like a bipod spigot, but closer to the barrel) for this purpose...

And a few more show up... :D Thanks guys for pointing them out!

-Larger and more aggressive barricade stops on the front of bottom metal.
-Retractable or fold-able barricades stops along the bottom and sides of the stock.

Manners appears to have added it to their bottom metal and have a large removable barricade stop as well:

Looks like we will see removable/movable barricade stops instead of ones that fold-out...

Bottom metal from Badger:

-Stocks with LOP that can be adjusted on the fly as needed, like an AR collapsible stock, but not as sloppy. (longer for prone, shorter for positional/barricades, real short for standing shots)

Looks like Manners has also implemented the adjustable on the fly LOP:

Well done Manners! My AI has the quick adjust push button LOP and it is a great feature, very quick to set the rifle up for either a different shooter or field position.
