Ruger SR9 double feeding/failure to eject issues

Hello,

I was at the range on Tuesday night and I shot off around 150 rounds (my reloads) through my Ruger SR9. I had a ton of double feed or failure to eject issues. After I shot 2 mags at one target I had 4. Then my boyfriend shot my Ruger and had the same problem. After the range I took the slide apart and the extractor off and cleaned everything. I have done this already after firing about 1000 rounds. I know Ruger had an issue but I thought it was fixed. Not sure if I should contact Ruger or if I can because I live in Canada. Anyone no what else I can try to fix this on my own? I'm pretty good at taking the pistol apart and cleaning it (do that after every range visit). Can it be the brass I'm using for my reloads are getting worn out, I check all the brass several times before using then for reloading. Maybe I should buy some factory ammo and see if I get the same problems. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Absolutely try it with factory ammo, could very well be a problem with your reloads.

Ruger has a warranty centre in Quebec called Snapshots I think but too early to contact them until you try with a couple of types of factory ammo.

Thanks, I just looked them up and it is called Snat Shots. I will do some more testing, but if it keeps on being an issue I will contact them.

Thanks again for the help.

I've lost count how many rounds through my SR9 but well beyond 12K and the only times I get FTE's is with reloaded sketchy range brass. I only wash mine and don't tumble or polish it though. Never had an issue with any brand of factory new ammo. But have had some even with commercial reloads.

On the plus side, I've found the FTE's to be super handy for practising malfunction drills.

I have had a lot of practice clearing malfunctions now. I'm not doing it for speed but I'm getting pretty good at clearing FTE's.

I just bought some factory ammo and going to try that when I get to the range again. Hope I don't have to send it in to get fixed.

I did notice what brass my SR9 likes now. No Sumbro and Winchester, they jam the most. It seems to like Blazer, PMC, FC, S&B, Speer and some Remington. I was reloading 115gr and 124gr but my SR9 seems to like 124gr more, that ok with me because I just bought 1000 rounds of 124gr projectiles. Anyway, I have around 2000 rounds through my SR9 now and I can see what brass to use more. I have around 5000 brass all separated by manufacturer.

i had an SR 9 and did not have any problems with mine, but i do recall it had a rather stout recoil spring. Perhaps your reloads are a little under powered.

I wouldn't blame the firearm until you run some factory ammo. Too many variables with reloaded ammo. I can all but guarantee that your loads are too light for the SR9's strong spring.

I have this same problem with mine, using factory Remington UMC & Blazer Brass.

OP, how did you resolve the issue? I’m debating sending this to Snapshots for them to fix it. They quote around $150. Probably the extractor needs replacement. Is this a difficult job to fix myself? I don’t want the down time on the gun.

Thanks!
