I have a TC pro hunter barrel in 308 Marlin express and I'm thinking of re-chambering to 7.62X54r.
I'd be reloading .308 bullets so the options are almost endless for bullet selection.
The only thing is the neck on the 308 marlin is 0.337" and the Russian is 0.336" there will be 0.156" of marlin neck left just
above the russian shoulder. Not sure if that small step would be an issue..I'm guessing not.

And.....are there any smiths in Manitoba with a 7.62X54r reamer willing to tackle this major undertaking?

That .001 difference is margin of error an utterly irrelevant different in this case. However the 7.62x54r is larger than the .308 marlin express in almost every other way, and should fully clean up the chamber.

That sounds perfect....Now just to find somebody willing to do it....
Was running a few what if's on Quick load.
Hornady 165grSST on top of a stiff load of Reloader 17 56.0grs. gets it to 3000fps at about 53,000psi out of the 28" barrel.

200 yard zero and 6" low at 300 yards still running at 2400fps. Beats the 308 marlin by 3" and about 400fps not that any animal will know the difference. but I will :)

The 308 Marlin express is a semi-rimmed although the rim is .508" vs. the russian 0,567" I'm hopping it will work with
not to much fuss.
